However, most on-line courses still <strong>of</strong>fer aone size fits all approach. In this tutorial we learn how to add adaptive behavior (orautomatic personalization) to a course. The tutorial first and <strong>for</strong>emosts covers <strong>the</strong>goals, methods and techniques that are used in <strong>the</strong> area <strong>of</strong> adaptive web-basedsystems. These deal with adaptation to <strong>the</strong> content <strong>of</strong> pages to suit individual users'learning style and prior knowledge, and with adaptation to <strong>the</strong> link structure toguide users through <strong>the</strong> course material, based on learning style parameters andon <strong>pre</strong>requisite relationships. We study (and demonstrate) how <strong>the</strong> well-knownAHA! system (version 3.0) can be used to create adaptive courses easily, usinggraphical authoring tools. Tools such asLiveMeeting, WebEx, or Breeze Meeting allow users to share and work on <strong>the</strong> sameapplications in real time, exchange ideas during threaded discussions and whiteboards, and answer polls on critical issues. The issue <strong>for</strong> using online collaboration/meetingtools <strong>for</strong> providing synchronous training options is that even thoughsuch tools are technically sophisticated, solid instructional experience is needed inorder to enable learning. This tutorial teaches participants how to take advantage<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most popular features <strong>of</strong> online meeting s<strong>of</strong>tware in order to provide studentswith an instructionally sound experience.
