Preps 5.3.1 InstallationThis release of the Kodak® Preps® digital imposition software is available as anupdater or full installer:• Use the updater to upgrade an existing installation of Preps 5.3.0. If you laterwant to uninstall only the upgraded portions of the software, you can use thisdocument’s procedure for uninstalling an update.• Use the full installer to install the complete updated software into a new folder.LicensingPreps 5.3.1 is a free upgrade for existing, licensed Preps 5.3.0 installations. If you donot have a Preps 5.x license, you must purchase a new license key (also calledpassword), which must be validated either by a supported Preps dongle that isinstalled on the same computer or by a floating license that is issued by a KodakPrinergy® or Kodak Prinergy Evo server.Preparing to install PrepsBefore you can install this software, you must be logged onto your computer at theAdministrator level.If you use integratedPreps with Prinergy:If a previous release isalready installed:Obtain and expand thecorrect installer:Important: To prevent serious problems, never update or install Preps software onthe AraxiPreps volume of your Prinergy server. Instead, wait until an update ofPrinergy installs the most current compatible Preps update. If necessary, you canupdate Preps at the workstations—never at the server.If you are installing onto a computer with a previous Preps installation, take thefollowing steps to prevent the loss of existing configuration data:1. Store a backup copy of the older Preps folder in another location.2. Ensure that the existing Preps software is not running when you start to install.3. After you install Preps, use the Preps Migration Utility to copy your marks,templates, and other files from the backup Preps folder to the new Preps folder.Preps 5.3.1 installers and updaters are available on a DVD or from the Preps page ofhttp://graphics.kodak.com/ (in the left pane, click Downloads).• Installing on Mac OS: Preps_5-3-1_Mac_Installer.dmg• Installing on Windows: Preps_5-3-1_Win_Installer.exe• Updating on Mac OS: Preps_5-3-1_Mac_Updater.zip• Updating on Windows: Preps_5-3-1_Win_Updater.exe

2Installing a full copy of PrepsBy default, the Preps installer places the software with its utilities and any optionalfeatures into a Preps 5.3 folder. On Mac OS, the Preps Ganging tool is also installed.Note: If a Preps Pro license is not available, you can use Preps Ganging in demo mode.To install Preps on theMac OS:To install Preps onWindows:1. Double-click Preps_5-3-1_Mac_Installer.dmg to open the installer, and acceptthe license agreement.2. When the contents appear in a Finder window, drag the Preps 5.3 folder to theApplications shortcut folder, and wait until installation completes.1. Double-click Preps_5-3-1_Win_Installer.exe.2. Follow the on-screen instructions until installation is complete.Installing a Preps updateUse the Preps 5.3.1 updater only if a previous Preps 5.3.0 release is already installedon your computer. If you have an older version, you must install a full copy of Preps.To update Preps on theMac OS:To update Preps onWindows:1. Copy the Preps_5-3-1_Mac_Updater.zip file to your computer and decompressit.2. Double-click the Preps 5.3.1 Updater icon and follow the on-screeninstructions. When you are prompted to specify a destination, select theexisting Preps 5.3 folder.1. Double-click Preps_5-3-1_Win_Updater.exe to start the installer.2. Follow the instructions as they appear.Uninstalling a Preps updateFollow this procedure if you want to revert to the most recent Preps release that wasrunning on your computer before you installed the current update.To uninstall a Prepsupdate on Mac OS:To uninstall a Prepsupdate on Windows:Note: The Preps updater places an installation receipt in the Library folder. If you skipthe following procedure and later try to reinstall the update, an error message will informyou that this update is already installed.1. In the Applications/Preps 5.3 folder, switch to icon view (press COMMAND+1).2. Double-click the RollbackTo5.3.0 icon, and click Yes to confirm the action.3. Wait until a message indicates a successful rollback.1. In the Preps 5.3 folder, locate the Restore5.3.0.xxx.bat file.2. To uninstall the update, choose a step dependindg on the Windows version:Windows 2000, XP, or 2003: Double-click the .bat file. Windows Vista: Right-click the .bat file and select Run as administrator.3. Delete the Restore5.3.0.xxx.bat file.
