SOLID PINS

THE SPIROL CONCEPTOur objective is to reduce component and/or assembly cost. Basedon fifty years of experience in solution selling and in-depth knowledgeof installation and assembly processes, we are uniquely qualified torecommend the most cost-effective pinning solution. We minimize cost through standardization of raw material, toolingconcepts and production processes, and investment in state-of-the-artcold heading and secondary processing technology. Our products aredesigned to meet ASME and ISO standards and our internal productionprocesses are controlled by continuous in-process monitors andprocedures certified to QS-9000.Starting with an analysis of your needs and objectives, Spirol Engineersdetermine the best standard or special pin for your application, givingconsideration to performance requirements, ease of production, automatic feeding and orientation, and installation. The replacementof costly, machined components is one of our specialties.Challenge us!Standard Solid Pins and Drive Studs — Specifying standardsolid pins and studs provides the lowest cost and quick availability. Ourstandard solid pins and drive studs, along with design considerations, are described on the following pages.Retension Mechanics Page 3Material & Finishes Page 4Straight Pins Page 5Headed Pins Page 6Knurled Pins Page 7Knurled Drive Studs Page 8Barbed Drive Studs Page 9Grooved Pins Page 10Twist-Lok Pins Page 112

STRAIGHT PINSSpirol ® Straight Pins are differentiated by their uniformity, consistently high CPK's,and the absence of defects such as nibs and burrs. The chamfered ends are moreconsistent than tumbled edges—making installation with automatic assembly equipmentmore reliable. These pins are often used to replace ground dowels.Series DP100CLDINCH SPECIFICATIONSMETRIC SPECIFICATIONSNominal DiameterDiameter "D"Chamfer "C"Length "L"Min.Max.Min..250.312.375.438.500.562.625.750.8751.0001.2501.5001.7502.0002.2501/16.0625.0605.0625.0053/32.0938.0918.0938.0051/8.125.123.125.0055/32.1563.1543.1563.005Length Tolerance± .0103/16.1875.1855.1875.0161/4.250.248.250.016Min.Max.Min.6810121416202426303540455055601.51.451.50.1521.9520.152.52.452.50.1532.9530.15Length Tolerance± 0.2543.9540.454.9550.465.9560.4Notes:⌖ Standard material: Low Carbon Steel and 300 Series Austenitic Stainless Steel.⌖ Other diameters and lengths available on request.⌖ Spirol straight pins conform to ASME B18.8.2.6 and ISO 2338 Type C.⌖ Dimensions apply before plating.Part Number CodeTO ORDER: (Nominal Diameter)x(Length)(Material)(Finish)(Pin Series Number)EXAMPLE: .156 x 1.250 VT DP1005

KNURLED PINSSpirol ® Knurled Pins are available with straight or helical knurls. The multicresteddesign evenly distributes the retention force—making it the ideal pin for soft materials andthin cross-sections. Helical knurls have the additional benefit of turning the pin into the holeduring installation. This assists material flow and hole alignment while eliminating knurlshearing and chips.Straight KnurlSeriesKP100Full LengthCLD2SeriesKP110Half LengthCenteredCLL4D1D2SeriesKP120Half LengthOffsetCD1LL2D2Helical KnurlSeriesKP200Full LengthCLD2SeriesKP210Half LengthCenteredCLL4D1 D2SeriesKP220Half LengthOffsetCD1LL2D2INCH SPECIFICATIONSMETRIC SPECIFICATIONSNominal DiameterDiameter "D1"Diameter "D2"Chamfer "C"RecommendedHoleLength "L"Min.Max.Min.Max.Min.Min.Max..250.312.375.438.500.562.625.750.8751.0001.2501.5001.7502.0002.2501/16.0625.0605.0625.068.072.005.0625.06403/32.0938.0918.0938.099.103.005.0938.09561/8.1250.123.125.131.135.005.1250.12715/32.1563.1543.1563.163.167.005.1563.1587Length Tolerance± .0103/16.1875.1855.1875.195.199.016.1875.19031/4.2500.248.250.256.260.016.2500.2534Min.Max.Min.Max.Min.Min.Max.68101214162024263035404550551.51.451.51.631.730.151.51.5621.9522.22.30.1522.062.52.452.52.72.80.152.52.5632.9533.253.350.1533.06Length Tolerance± 0.2543.9544.254.350.444.0854.9555.255.350.455.0865.9566.256.350.466.08Notes:⌖ Standard material: Low Carbon Steel and 300 Series Austenitic Stainless Steel.⌖ Recommended hole sizes are given for average conditions.Required hole size is dependent on length of knurl engagement and hardness of host material.⌖ Other diameters and lengths available on request.⌖ Dimensions apply before plating.Part Number CodeTO ORDER: (Nominal Diameter)x(Length)(Material)(Finish)(Pin Series Number)EXAMPLE: 2 x 20 FK KP1007

KNURLED DRIVE STUDSSpirol ® Knurled Drive Studs are headed and knurled fasteners used to replacescrews. Typical applications include: fastening cover plates, name plates, knobs, clamps, brackets, and heat sinks. Since knurled drive studs can be installed faster than threadedfasteners, they present a significant labor reduction opportunity.Straight KnurlSeriesHP100Round HeadLD2PSeriesHP200Flat HeadLD2PD1D1Helical KnurlSeriesHP110Round HeadLD2CPSeriesHP210Flat HeadLD2CPD1D1CCStud SizeDiameter "D1"Diameter "D2"Head DiameterRound HeadThicknessFlat HeadThicknessChamfer "C"Pilot Length "P"LengthRec.
