Transition OverviewMotorola is announcing the End of Sale for their long-running flagship product, the 802.11 a/b/g dual radioAP-5131 at the end of 2011. Customers are encouraged to purchase Motorola’s 802,11n dual and singleradio offerings – AP 6532 and AP 6521 products as a replacement coming out this year, based on the WiNG5 architecture. The AP65xx series of Access Points provide not only the high level of features and usability customers havecome to expect from the AP-5131, they also offer the many enhanced WiNG 5.x features and performancenot available on the AP-51xx. The AP 65xx series APs future-proof customers by providing high throughput802.11n operation at a comparable price point to what customers have come to expect from the AP-51xx lineof products. The AP 65xx series APs are designed to run off of 802.3af, allowing them to drop into traditionalAP-5131 deployment scenarios. AP 65xx series APs are available in both internal and external antennamodels, adding simplified deployment opportunities not available on the AP-5131.Even in legacy installations where 802.11n speeds and feeds aren’t needed, the AP 65xx series APs addincreased value for the price over the AP-51xx. The AP 65xx series radios are capable of DFS operation, which in many regulatory domains can open additional many additional 5GHz channels not currentlyavailable on the AP-5131. Improved performance from MIMO signaling and a higher transmit power allowfor wider coverage areas even at legacy rates on legacy clients. The AP 65xx series of APs will run WiNG5.x software and will offer enhanced ADSP features such as Spectrum Analysis, Radio Share, and NetworkAssurance regardless of the data rates being used for clients. The AP 6532 comes with Motorola’s newLimited Lifetime Hardware Warranty. Customers will find that upgrading to the AP 65xx line of APs is aneasy move that adds immediate value to their installation.Detail on the AP-5181 End of Sale and replacement products can be found in PMB 2038.2. Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: Which switches/controllers can the AP65xx series APs be adaptively managed with?A: The AP65xx series APs will work with any of the RFS series of switches: the RFS4000, RFS6000,RFS7000 as well as ADSP or the NX9000.Q: Which version of WiNG do I need to run the AP 65xx series APs?A: The AP 65xx series APs will be offered with the WiNG 5.2 code stream.Q: Will the AP 65xx series APs work as an AirDefense sensor?A: Yes. Sensor functionality will be released by AirDefense for the AP 65xx series APs, and additionallyincreased functionality will be offered over and above AP-5131 capabilities in the form of increasedSpectrum Analysis, Network Assurance and Wireless Vulnerability Assessment.Q: I currently use a 802.3af PoE infrastructure, will I have to upgrade that to use the replacement products?A: No. The AP 6532 & AP 6521 both are fully functional off of 802.3af power, no new power supplies orupdated infrastructure is needed.Q: Does SmartRF work with the AP 65xx series APs?A: Yes, SmartRF for 11n rates and propagation will be rolled out on the AP 65xx series APs through 2011 inWiNG 5.2 and beyond.Template #: SP-10875-72 rev. Q: Can these replacement APs work both Independently and Adaptively?A: Yes, the AP 6532 will be adaptive in it’s initial release (with WiNG 5.1) and all AP models will be bothAdaptive as well as Independent as of the WiNG 5.2 release.Q: What site-survivability is available when using the AP 6532 or AP 6521 adaptively?A: Both models will allow full site survivability as of WiNG 5.1 for AP 6532 and WiNG 5.2 for AP 6521. Nolimit will be placed on how long the AP can operate without a switch.Q: Is there a specific transition for the D-mode AP-51xx SKUs?A: No, the WiNG 5 architecture does away with the concept of a D-Mode fat AP. As all ports will be capableof local bridging the AP 6532 and AP 6521 are the logical replacements. If local bridging is required withoutthe need for site survivability, then the AP 650 or AP 621 should be considered.Q: What about currently installed adaptive AP-5131 deployments?A: While the AP-51xx architecture will not be migrated to WiNG 5.x, we will continue to support the WiNG 4.xcode train through the support duration detailed above.Q: Is the AP 6532 a Limited Lifetime Hardware Warranty device?A: Yes, the AP 6532 is included in Motorola’s Limited Lifetime Hardware Warranty coverage.Q: Is the AP-5181 also going EoS?A: Yes, the AP-5181 EoS announcement can be found in PMB2038.End of Life Timeline Definitions:First RMA Request Date: first date distributors can request RMA for return of EOL product.Last RMA Request Date: last date distributors can request RMA for return of EOL product.Last Channel Return Date: last date physical product returns will be accepted (30 days after approval of RMA)Last Book Date: last date orders will be accepted for product and/or bundles, kits or system packs containing the product.Last Ship Date: latest date for which a customer can request product delivery.End-of-Engineering Support: date when bug fixes, design revisions, and integration with other components, products or solutions will no longer beperformed.End of Service Date: last date when technical support and repair services will be available.Warranty: Motorola Enterprise Mobility ("Motorola") hardware Products are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials for a period oftwelve (12) months from the date of shipment, unless otherwise provided by Motorola in writing, provided the Product remains unmodified and isoperated under normal and proper conditions.
