Monday 3 rd <strong>June</strong>63 PRIME CATTLE & BARREN COWS - 10.45AMAuctioneer: Simon Alford 07789 980203An excellent entry of Prime Cattle and Barren Cow sawPrime Cattle to 246ppk and £1713 Barren Cows to 164ppkPrime Cattle – A superb show of prime on offer hit new heights as Michael and Stephen Harvey of Hennock saw thebest of their quality entry top at 246ppk for a cracking 23 month blonde heifer and smart steers of the same breed to242, 238, and 237ppk, with a top price realised of £1713. Other good continental types reached £1144 for Roger & JohnDennis of Tedburn St Mary’s Charolais heifer (526kg at 218ppk) and £1160(576kg at 202ppk) for Phil Coaker of Postbridge with his Charolais steer. Atremendous 708kg Aberdeen Angus steer from Robert Reddaway of SouthTawton topped the native breed prime at 229ppk & £1617 and Mike Churchillof Aylesbeare saw his 29 month old Angus heifer make 216ppk or £1336, Mikealso topped the OTM Prime with his 32 month British Blue heifer topping201ppk and £1375. A well finished 25 month South Devon bull from RobertMerchant of Moretonhampstead reached 226ppk or £1384.Barren Cows – Although Monday lacked the quality entry compared to previous weeks, all types of cows were again intremendous demand. Ray Toms of Cheriton Bishop secured the weekly Briarwood products award for the highest pricedbarren cow with his Belgian Blue at 157ppk realising £1104 while Ray’s next best, a 13 year old Charolais made 164ppk or£1003. A large consignment from Andrew and Cath Smerdon from Ivybridge saw fleshed cows straight off Dartmoor to159ppk and £1100, together with good feeding types to 140ppk. Other suckler sorts from Karl Partridge of Dawlish andBob Rank of Longdown made to 143ppk and 137ppk respectively. Top for heavies werelovely 51kg lambs from John & Russell Stevens of Crediton at £114.20,the same vendor also had a pen of 50kgs at £112.20. A sweet 52kg lambfrom GA Endacott of Spreyton achieved £114, Clifford Dennis of NorthTawton and Terry Phillips of Tedburn St Mary also realised £112.20 with50 & £51kg lambs respectively. Robbie & Sue Small of Ashburton sold50kg Hampshire lambs at £111 and Alan Draper of Crediton reached£110 of a 47kg pure Texel lamb. Top per kilo for heavier lambs was237ppk for a smashing pen of 46kg lambs from Alan Weymouth ofKingsbridge (£109). In the 40-45kg weight bracket, top was £107 and238ppk from KG & SRJ Wotton of Dartmouth, 238ppk also from SBPitts of Germansweek, a great pen of twenty 40kg lambs from AubreyHosegood of Crediton, and Halwell Farm of Kingsbridge who had othersat 237ppk. 39kg lambs reached £102.20 or 262ppk for an immensecontinental from EJ & R Calcraft of Aylesbeare, with Charollais’ fromPaul Harris of Kingswear at £93.80 and Charollais x’s from Ian Tall ofModbury at £92, £92 also was called for the best pen of 38kg lambs againfrom Alan Weymouth or 242ppk. 37kg shapely lambs from SarahChambers of Kingsbridge reached £91 or 246ppk.
