Continued from previous page.RN: Organizes and implements a program of patient care;collaborates with doctors' orders, dispenses medications, assesseseffectiveness of medication given and leads educational supportgroups. Supervises all aspects of patient care.LPN: Takes directions from RNs in providing care and supervision forpatients. LPNs also give medications. Provide emotional supportand behavioral support for patients. May supervise the care of MHTsand lead groups.MHTs: A nursing staff member who helps patients with daily lifetasks like bathing and dressing. The MHTs go with children toschool at Shodair and other activities. MHTs provide emotional andbehavioral support around the clock. MHTs may lead educationaland support groups at the direction of an RN.Ward Clerk: Coordinates patient appointments and medical records.Also functions as an MHT when needed.Recreation Therapist: Helps children improve their functioningthrough structured group activities. These activities help childrendevelop leisure skills, explore leisure interests, and improve their levelof participation. Patients may also identify barriers to involvementand explore meaningful ways to make the best of their leisure time.Recreation Aide: Provides structured recreational activities under thedirection and supervision of a Rec Therapist.Registered Dietician: Assesses your child's nutritional needs,monitors weight, and adjusts meal plans as necessary.Teacher: Provides structured classroomactivities to promote educationalimprovement and assess functioningin the classroom setting.Serves as a liaison betweenthe treatment team andthe child's school.Teacher's Aide:Assists teacher inclassroom activities.4 Artwork by a Shodair patient
Primary Therapist: Master's prepared clinician (MSW or LPC) whoconducts weekly family and individual sessions. The therapist helpspatients and families cope with psychiatric illness and its impact ontheir lives. The primary therapist also makes sure that optimaldischarge planning and aftercare arrangements are made for eachpatient. Also conducts group therapy sessions twice weekly on theresidential units.Clinical Intake Specialist: Works with patient, family, and insurancecarrier to provide the best services allowed under policy coverage. Aclinical intake specialist also coordinates admissions and referrals.Meetings you are expected to attend:• Admission• Initial treatment team meeting (within first ten days)• Family therapy once per week (in person, phone,or telemedicine)• Treatment review meetings every four weeks• Education planning meetingsYour participation is important! If you live far away andtraveling is hard, we can sometimes hold these meetings by phone orthrough our teleconference network.
