P<strong>at</strong>ient Safety:One of our most important responsibilities <strong>at</strong> <strong>Shodair</strong> Children'sHospital is the safety of your child. All children are moni<strong>to</strong>red bya member of our nursing staff <strong>at</strong> least every 15 minutes (more oftenif needed), 24 hours a day.Our staff has many other ways th<strong>at</strong> we keep your child safe.For example, all direct care staff are trained in ways <strong>to</strong> de-escal<strong>at</strong>echildren. Our direct care staff are also trained in safe ways <strong>to</strong>restrain violent or aggressive p<strong>at</strong>ients.Our hospital also has many safety fe<strong>at</strong>ures th<strong>at</strong> are part of thebuilding. They include:• Safety glass in all windows in p<strong>at</strong>ient rooms.• Specially designed b<strong>at</strong>hroom and shower fixtures.• Night lights in all bedrooms.• Cameras moni<strong>to</strong>r all p<strong>at</strong>ient care areas, except b<strong>at</strong>hrooms.• Specially designed “quiet rooms” <strong>to</strong> help children who getviolent <strong>to</strong> become calm safely in a secluded and secure area.These rooms are moni<strong>to</strong>red by staff through a camera.• All exit doors are locked and require staff <strong>to</strong> open them.• All interior doors in the p<strong>at</strong>ient care areas are locked and requirea staff member <strong>to</strong> open either with a key or badge.10Wh<strong>at</strong> Happens if My ChildGets Hurt or Sick?Every direct care staff <strong>at</strong> <strong>Shodair</strong> Children's Hospital is certified inCPR and First Aid. There are registered nurses working 24 hours aday, available <strong>to</strong> assess and give tre<strong>at</strong>ment as needed for your child.There is also a nurse administra<strong>to</strong>r and physician on call every dayaround the clock. When needed, <strong>Shodair</strong> works with local healthcare providers, like pedi<strong>at</strong>ricians or dentists, <strong>to</strong> give specialized care<strong>to</strong> your child.<strong>Shodair</strong> will always notify parents if their child is hurt or sick.
