TF25 Swiss Pickoff Collet<strong>for</strong> internal gripping of threaded or thin-wall partsThis custom designed Swiss-style <strong>pickoff</strong><strong>collet</strong> is manufactured by Hardinge Inc. <strong>for</strong>Citizen 20mm machines <strong>and</strong> other br<strong>and</strong>screw machines that use TF-25 subspindle<strong>collet</strong>s. Originally designed <strong>for</strong>Brookdale Associates (Agawam, Mass),this internal gripping solution played a keyrole in finalizing the sale of a Citizenmachine, according to R<strong>and</strong>y Nickerson,Applications Engineer <strong>and</strong> TrainingManager at Brookdale Associates. The jobinvolved picking off a very thin-walledpart from the main spindle <strong>for</strong> additionalback-turning <strong>and</strong> facing of the part. Thecustomer application incorporatedautomated loading of slugs into the mainTF25 Sub-spindle <strong>pickoff</strong><strong>collet</strong> shows customer’sworkpiece on exp<strong>and</strong>inghead on left.spindle. They wanted to eliminate anysecond operation to finish this partcomplete with an unmanned operation,<strong>and</strong> would not accept any alterations tothe sub-spindle. Hardinge designed asolution to fit within the existing drawtube parameters without having toshorten the draw tube. Withoutalterations, the sub-spindle is still able tofunction within it’s normal capabilities torun other jobs.R<strong>and</strong>y commented that he depends onHardinge’s knowledge <strong>and</strong> expertise inthe industry <strong>for</strong> a reliable product that he<strong>and</strong> his customer can depend on. “Whenthe customer has an unusual orcomplicated process where there is room<strong>for</strong> something to go wrong, we turn toHardinge <strong>for</strong> the right solution,” statedR<strong>and</strong>y Nickerson.The TF-25 <strong>ID</strong> <strong>pickoff</strong> <strong>collet</strong> is applicationspecific <strong>and</strong> grips just one part, however itcould accommodate other similar jobs bychanging out the exp<strong>and</strong>ing head portionof the assembly.
