This protocol is supported on WindowsServer 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, andWindows Server 2008 R2. Windows XP and Windows 2000 do not support <strong>VDS</strong>, but the <strong>Disk</strong>Management Remote <strong>Protocol</strong> [<strong>MS</strong>-DMRP] on those operating systems provides a subset of thefunctionality that <strong>VDS</strong> provides. Section 1.6: Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 implement DMRP, asspecified in [<strong>MS</strong>-DMRP]. Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Vista, WindowsServer 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 implement the <strong>Virtual</strong> <strong>Disk</strong> <strong>Service</strong> Remote<strong>Protocol</strong>. The <strong>VDS</strong> Remote <strong>Protocol</strong> is the preferred protocol to use with Windows Server 2003,Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and WindowsServer 2008 R2. The interfaces that are associated with DMRP, as specified in [<strong>MS</strong>-DMRP], are notavailable on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2.
