MethodDescriptionOpnum: 6MergeExpandCauses all blocks in a child differencing disk to be moved into the parent.Opnum: 7Increases the size of a virtual disk's backing store (the virtual disk file).Opnum: 8All methods MUST NOT throw exceptions.3.2 Common Details3.2.1 Abstract Data ModelThis section describes a conceptual model of possible data organization that an implementationmaintains to participate in this protocol. The described organization is provided to facilitate theexplanation of how the protocol behaves. This document does not mandate that implementationsadhere to this model as long as their external behavior is consistent with that described in thisdocument.3.2.1.1 Method Invocation3.2.1.1.1 Method Sequencing RequirementsSome method calls require no prerequisite calls against the server; they simply query forinformation or pass in parameters that are constructed by the client. In general, the prerequisite call is to an object enumeration method, which retrieves informationabout a specific set of storage objects, such as volumes or disks. Information that the objectenumeration method returns is then used to supply input parameters for subsequent calls. Calls withsuch prerequisites are grouped in the next section by storage object type.3.2.1.1.2 Storage Object RelationshipsThis section describes the hierarchy of interfaces and objects that the Virtual Disk Service RemoteProtocol uses and the relationships between those objects.[MS-VDS] — v20110610Virtual Disk Service (VDS) Protocol SpecificationCopyright © 2011 Microsoft Corporation.Release: Friday, June 10, 2011142 / 360
