1 IntroductionThe Virtual Disk Service (VDS) Remote Protocol is a set of Distributed Component Object Model(DCOM) interfaces for managing the configuration of disk storage on a computer. The Virtual DiskService Remote Protocol deals with detailed low-level operating system and storage concepts.Although this specification outlines the basic concepts that you need to know, this specificationassumes that you are familiar with these technologies. For information about storage, disk, andvolume concepts, see [MSDN-STC] and [MSDN-PARTITIONINFO]; for information on diskmanagement, see [MSDN-DISKMAN]. For more information about programming VDS, see [MSDN-VDSPG].The Virtual Disk Service Remote Protocol is used to programmatically enumerate and configuredisks, volumes, host bus adapter (HBA) ports, and iSCSI initiators on remote computers.
