Faden, who has seven course records fromdual-meet victories, placed an impressive fourth at the All-State Championships, the top CMass finisher. He served ascoach Peter Gleason’s captain. Super Team selections arenothing new for Faden, who has also attained T&G distinctionon the track. Among his hobbies are dirtbiking, snowboarding,stamp collecting and taekwondo. He hopes to attend college in NewEngland. Faden’s grandfathers were standout athletes — Bill Smith playedfootball at Boston College, and Paul Faden won many tennis titles aroundNew England, including the state doubles championship. He is the son ofMaryLou and Andy Faden of North Grafton.Peter BloemWhitinsville Christian, SeniorBloem’s 27th-place finishat the Division 2 All-StateChampionships (17:26.3,second on team) lifted theCrusaders to fifth place as ateam, following up theirCentral Mass. championshipfrom the week before.He considers his teamprevailing in the CentralMass. Division 2 meet as his most memorablesports moment. The two-time captain undercoach Chris Vander Baan is a three-time DualValley Conference all-star, and he is also atwo-year captain in indoor and outdoor track.Last spring, he was Class C champion in the800 meters and ran a leg on the 4x800 teamthat won a district title. Bloem played varsitybasketball his freshman and sophomoreyears. He lists Bentley, Providence andStonehill as his top college choices and plansto major in accounting. Hefollowed that by taking fifthat Franklin Park in Boston inthe All-State Meet, wherethe Chieftains finished third for the secondstraight year. Aylaian turned in course-recordperformances at Groton-Dunstable, Wachusettand Oakmont. He’s a two-time CentralMass. champion in the outdoor mile, so this ishis third appearance on a Super Team. Hismost memorable sports moment came lastwinter when he ran a leg on the Chieftains’4x1-mile team that placed fifth at the indoornational championships. His father brokerecords in the 220 and 440 on solid WatertownHigh track teams. He is the son of Lisaand Doug Aylaian of Stow.Joe DoyleNashoba Regional, SeniorThis is the 6-foot-2 Doyle’ssecond berth on a T&GSuper Team, his first comingafter a tremendousspring track season as ajunior. As a senior captainand one of four Chieftainson this Super Team, hehelped Nashoba repeat itsCentral Mass. Division 1title, placing fifth in 15:10.7 over the 2.9 milesat Gardner Municipal GC. At All-States atFranklin Park, he placed 30th (16:52.1, 3.1miles). At last spring’s Central Mass. Trackand Field Championships, he shattered the800-meter record, winning in 1:56.28, thenfinished third at All-States and fourth at NewEnglands. During indoor track a year ago, heran a leg on the 4x1-mile relay team thatearned All-America recognition, placing fifth atthe nationals. He is the son of Johnna andSean Doyle of Lancaster.Max FlatonBromfield School, JuniorFlaton again shined in thebig meets to earn arepeat selection to theT&G Super Team. He ledthe Trojans to a third-placefinish at the Central Mass.Division 2 Championshipsunder coach Kevin Foster,placing eighth in 15:51.7over the 2.9-mile course atGardner Municipal GC. Flaton followed thatthe next week with a 10th-place performanceat the All-States at Franklin Park inBoston, covering the 3.1 miles in 17:06.7.Since his freshman year, Flaton has madequite an impact in Mid-Wach C — he wonthe league meet as a freshman and finishedsecond as a sophomore. Earlier in 2008,he collected all-league honors in indoor andoutdoor track, winning the District E 2 milelast spring. He is the son of Noelle and KenFlaton of Harvard.Chris BetschartHopedale High, SeniorAthird Super Team selectionis a fitting way towrap up a stellar career,during which Betscharthelped teams to Division 2state championships in2005 and ’07 while rackingup impressive individualaccolades. The four-timeDual Valley Conferenceall-star finished seventh in 15:42.2 at theCentral Mass. Division 2 meet and 39th at theAll-State Championships (17:36.0) whileserving as coach Joe Drugan’s captain. At thisyear’s Wachusett Invitational, he placed thirdwhile leading Hopedale to another Class Ccrown. When the Blue Raiders captured theAll-State title in ’06, he was the top freshmanat the meet. He played basketball last winter,but has opted for indoor track this season.Betschart plans to study communications orbusiness in college. He is the son of Anneand Doug Betschart of Hopedale.Georges FischerNashoba Regional, SeniorFischer’s first exposure tocross country was on skisas a freshman, but afterrunning track that spring,the foundation was set foran impressive cross countryrunning career. After finishingsixth at the Mid-WachB meet, he placed seventh(15:19.6, 2.9 miles) at theCentral Mass. Division 1 race and 59th(17:20.1, 3.1 miles) at the All-State Championships,helping coach Don Gribbons’ squad tothe CMass title and fifth at the All-States. Helists his dramatic finish with St. John’s CameronTieuli at this year’s CMass Division 1meet as his most memorable moment. Amonghis hobbies are sailing, cooking, piano anddrama. Brother Nils Fischer was a SuperTeam selection who went on to star at UMass,and his father ran for Cornell in the 1970s. Heis the son of Eve and Andy Fischer of Stow.Conor GroganHudson High, SeniorWith Grogan placingfourth (14:59.9) in theCentral Mass. Division 1race at Gardner MunicipalGC, the Hawks were alsoable to finish fourth as ateam. The following Saturday,he shined with a14th-place finish at All-States, completing the3.1-mile Franklin Park course in 16:35.8.Other highlights while leading coach KathyVinciullo’s team included setting the homecourserecord (16:30, 3.1 miles) and winningthe Mid-Wach C league meet. He has participatedin cross country, indoor and outdoortrack all four years of high school. He helpedthe indoor track team to the Division 4 statetitle last winter and as a sophomore ran a legon the winning 4x800-meter team in theDivision 4 states. He is the son of Donna andPaul Grogan of Hudson.

The Mid-Wach Bmeet champion reboundedfrom a rough outing in theCentral Mass. Division 1race (46th) to place third inthe All-State meet (16:17.8), behind only LatinAcademy’s Ahmed Ali and Omar Abdi. Hisvictory at the Mid-Wach B meet set a courserecord at Ghiloni Park in Marlboro, and his15:51 is the home-course record at BowerSprings. Last winter, Horowitz ran a leg on the4x1-mile relay team that placed fifth at thenational indoor meet at the Armory in NewYork, his most memorable sports moment,and he was the league’s 600-meter champion.The 16-year-old junior is the son of DarciMickus and Gary Horowitz of Stow.Andrew MajkutNipmuc Regional, JuniorThe Warriors’ cross countryteam advanced to theAll-State Championships forthe first time in 40 years,and co-captain Majkutplayed a key role. In theCentral Mass. Division 2race at Gardner MunicipalGC, he was Nipmuc’s No. 2man, placing sixth in 15:34,as teammate Patrick Mullarkey finished thirdand coach Dick Auger’s team runner-up toWhitinsville Christian. At All-States, he placed41st, wrapping up a most successful season.He was second in Class C at the WachusettInvitational, fourth at the Dual Valley Conferencemeet and 12th among Division 2 juniors/seniorsat the MSTCA Invitational. Majkutruns the mile and 2 mile in indoors andoutdoors. He is the son of Vanessa and StevenMajkut of Upton.Byron M. JonesWestboro High, JuniorHere’s another whoswitched from soccerafter freshman year, and itpays off in an individualdistrict title as a junior.Jones outlasted Nashoba’sBrendon Aylaian to take theCentral Mass. Division 1championship, sparking a1-3 finish with teammateJeff Bush that led coach Rick Hebert’sRangers to fifth place. The next week,Jones placed 11th at All-States. The Mid-Wach B all-star broke the Westboro courserecord, covering the 2.6 miles in 12:58.Last year, Jones placed seventh in theindoor mile at districts and sixth in the districtsoutdoors. His father ran a 4:17 mile asa junior in high school, and his mom set the440-yard record at her high school, both inupstate New York. He is the son of Reginaand Bruce Jones of Westboro.Tim MazeikaMillbury High, SeniorSuper Team selections arestarting to become habitforming for Mazeika, whofinished fourth (15:22.8,2.9 miles) in the CentralMass. Division 2 race atGardner Municipal GC. Thisis his third selection, secondin cross country. CoachMike DiGangi’s team wonthe SWCL championship meet, with Mazeikaplacing second to Grafton’s Will Faden, themost memorable sports moment for thesenior. Last winter, Mazeika won the districttitle in the 2 mile to earn T&G Super Teamstatus. In the spring, he took fourth in the highjump at the District E meet. Mazeika has twogoals on the track before graduating fromhigh school — break 4:30 in the mile and 10minutes in the 2 mile. He is the son of Elizabethand John Mazeika of Millbury.John MurrayShrewsbury High, SophomoreThe lone sophomore onthe Super Team, Murrayhas already establishedhimself as a force for thefuture in Central Mass.cross country circles. Undercoach Jim Smith, the Colonialsplaced third at theCentral Mass. Division 1championships, with Murrayfinishing ninth in 15:30.6 over the 2.9-milelayout at Gardner Municipal GC. At the All-States, he came in 36th in 17:01.4 over the3.1 miles at Franklin Park in Boston, fourthamong sophomores. Murray established acourse record at Shrewsbury this season andearned his way onto the Mid-Wach A all-starsquad. Murray, who played lacrosse lastspring, skated with the hockey program lastwinter but has switched to indoor track thisseason. The 16-year-old is the son of Cheryland Mark Murray of Shrewsbury.Daniel WalshSutton High, FreshmanCameron TieuliSt. John’s High, SeniorThis is Tieuli’s third selectionto a T&G SuperTeam, coming after hefinished sixth (15:19.2) inthe Central Mass. Division 1meet at Gardner MunicipalGC despite running througha leg injury. The captain ledcoach Raul Laborde’s Pioneersto a second-placefinish at the district meet, placing five runnersamong the top 23. Tieuli, whose twin brotherChris placed 16th at districts, finished fifth inthe districts as a sophomore and junior, andSt. John’s was runner-up at All-States hissophomore season. His best indoor track mileis 4:28; his best 2 mile 9:45. Undecided on acollege choice, he hopes to major in communicationswhile running competitively. BrotherMatt, who is at Notre Dame, won a district titlein 2006 and was a T&G Super Teamer. Cameronis the son of Lisa and Alan Tieuli of Upton.The beat goes on for the Walsh family as Daniel becomes the third inhis family to earn a T&G Super Team selection in cross country. Hetook the Central Mass. Division 2 race by storm while leading coach BillGillin’s Sammies to a fourth-place finish, crossing in fifth (15:26.6, 2.9miles), behind three seniors and one junior (Whitinsville Christian’sArleigh McRae in second). He didn’t let up at the All-State meet in Boston,finishing 23rd in 17:23 over 3.1 miles, behind only one other ninthgrader(Oliver Ames’ Drew Beck in 21st), who finished just a second anda half ahead. Brother Zachary was a Super Teamer last year after placingsixth in the Central Mass. Division 2 meet, and brother Bart was athree-time Super Teamer. In fact, Zachary and Bart finished 51st and 52nd in the 2005All-States. Daniel is the son of Dorothy and Bartholomew Walsh of Sutton.Arleigh McRaeWhitinsville Christian, JuniorMcRae’s athletic careercontinues to flourish.He was runner-up to Grafton’sWill Faden in the CentralMass. Division 2 meetafter winning last year, butthe co-captain did lead theCrusaders to the districtchampionship over DualValley Conference rivalNipmuc, as five of coach Chris Vander Baan’srunners placed in the top 25. McRae followedup with a seventh-place finish at All-States(16:49.1), the second best finish by a CMassrunner. This is McRae’s third appearance onthe T&G Super Team; he’s a three-time All-DVC selection, and he’s even an all-leagueshortstop for the Crusaders’ baseball team,complete with a .367 batting average. He isthe son of Claire and John McRae of EastBrookfield.Patrick MullarkeyNipmuc Regional, SeniorAs a captain for coachDick Auger’s Warriors,Mullarkey turned in quite asenior season, placing third(15:07.1, 2.9 miles) in theCentral Mass. Division 2meet and eighth (16:49.6,3.1 miles) in the All-Stateevent, with Nipmuc finishingsecond in CMass Division2. Along with setting course records at Nipmucand Sutton, Mullarkey took second in theDual Valley Conference meet and first at theWachusett Invitational Class C race. He’s arepeat Super Teamer who last year placedthird in the district meet and 19th at All-States.Now a three-sport runner after playing soccerhis freshman and sophomore years, he hasbeen a DVC all-star five times and has beenselected captain five times. Then came theFoot Locker Northeast Regionalvictory in New York,sweeping through the3.1-mile Van CortlandtPark course in 17:31.The Georgetownboundsenior hascollected a dozenT&G Super Teamselections in hersix years at Bromfield,setting nationalindoor 2-mile standards forthe season last winter andfinishing second in the 2mile at the outdoornationals last spring. Ariel is the daughterof Ellen and Bill Beccia of Holden.Jessie CardinSutton High, Seventh gradeIf winning the Dual Valley Conferencemiddle school championship this fallwasn’t enough, then there was theshock of placing seventh (18:32.4) atthe Central Mass. Division 2 meet. “I’mnew to this,” Cardin sighed when askedto list her accomplishments for the <strong>Telegram</strong>& <strong>Gazette</strong>. Sutton was runner-up toBromfield by placing five among the top24, including Cardin’s sister Rachael, asenior who has enjoyed six successful years in crosscountry and track at Sutton. Jessie, who finished threetenthsof a second behind fellow seventh-grader ReneeCapps of Narragansett at the districts and was the firstSuzie to cross the line in that race, continued her lateseasonroll by taking 38th at All-States (20:29.3) as coachBill Gillin’s team placed 10th. Cardin enjoys playing piano,singing, drawing and creative writing. She is the daughterof Joan and Brian Cardin of Sutton.Jacqui HolmesBromfield School, SeniorAfter two selections tothe T&G Super Teamfor tennis, Holmes earnsa spot on the crosscountry squad afterhelping the Trojans to aCentral Mass. Division 2championship andfourth-place finish atAll-States under firstyearcoach Ray Dunn. She placed 10th inthe districts (18:45.8) and 42nd at All-States (20:37.7). Her best 5K performancecame in the Division 2 race of theCatholic Memorial Invitational at FranklinPark, where she clocked 20:31 to finish12th. Her most memorable sportsmoment was contributing to the Trojans’second straight Division 2 state title lastyear. In tennis, she’s a three-time Mid-Wach C MVP, advancing to the CentralMass. singles quarterfinals as a sophomoreand semifinals last year. Holmesenjoys tutoring and would like to becomea teacher someday. She is the daughterof Dilia and Chris Holmes of Harvard.Renee CappsNarragansett Regional, Seventh gradeThere could be quite a future for theWarriors with the 79-pound Cappsand twin sister Anna leading the way.Renee placed sixth (18:32.1) and Annaninth (18:33.1) in the Central Mass.Division 2 meet at Gardner MunicipalGC, sparking Narragansett to a fifthplaceteam finish. At the All-States,Renee was 68th in 21:10.6, while Annafell ill and couldn’t finish. Renee alsoplaced fourth and Anna fifth at the Quabbin Invitational,helping the Warriors take fourth as a team. With coach JoeDiMucci’s top four runners all seventh-graders, the teamfinished 6-6. For Renee, her most memorable sportsmoments to date are running at the All-States and timesshe’s been able to cross the finish line with Anna. Herfather was captain of the outdoor track team at BillericaMemorial High. She is the daughter of Tara and MichaelCapps of Templeton.Stephanie EllisGardner High, JuniorAfter finishing third in last year’s CentralMass. Division 1 meet, Ellis pulled offan impressive victory by nearly 12 secondsin this year’s event, completing the2.9-mile layout at Gardner Municipal GCin 17:21.1. Her 10th-place performanceat the All-States the following week(19:05.7), the second-best finish for aCMass runner behind Marlboro’s AllysonOram, put an exclamation point on herrepeat selection to the cross country Super Team. Shealso set the Gardner course record while running forcoaches Ken Pelletier and Dave Beauregard. As a sophomore,she led the Wildcats to a 10-0 dual-meet seasonand second place in the districts, giving Gardner its firsttrip to the All-States in 30 years. She’s back at the indoortrack scene, where she shined in the mile and 2 mile lastwinter en route to T&G Super Team selection. She is thedaughter of Lisa and Michael Ellis of Gardner.Abby HurdNashoba Regional, FreshmanShe names basketball,skiing, swimming andfield hockey among herinterests, but toppingAbby Hurd’s list is running,and that she’senjoying thoroughly as aninth-grader. Her timeskept improving throughoutthe season, rightdown to the Division 1 All-State race atFranklin Park, where she placed 27th in19:45.8, her best over 3.1 miles, withonly one freshman (Lincoln-Sudbury’sCorey Stock, sixth) finishing ahead of her.Hurd led first-year coach Dan Glover’sChieftains to fifth place in the CentralMass. Championships, crossing in sixth in18:11.1 over Gardner Municipal GolfCourse’s 2.9-mile layout. She also placedsecond in the MSTCA Coaches Invitational’sfreshman race and fourth at the Mid-Wach B league meet. Her aunt, StacyHurd, played basketball at Duke Universityduring the 1980s. Abby is the daughter ofEmily and Tim Hurd.

Tournaments.Playerof the yearRicky StimetsWachusett Regional, SeniorStimets, the <strong>Telegram</strong> & <strong>Gazette</strong>Player of the Year for golf, made theT&G Super Team for the third year in arow. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound seniorcarded a 3-under 69 at BrookmeadowCC in Canton to win his second stateDivision 1 individual title in threeyears. Stimets also won the state title atLudlow CC as a sophomore. From1949-1987 when one all-division statetournament was held, only two golfers won it more thanonce. Since 1988, Stimets is just the third golfer to winthe Division 1 state title more than once. At the CentralMass. Division 1 tournament, he shot a 5-over 76 to tiefor seventh. Stimets, 18, was the youngest golfer to qualifyto play in the 2008 Massachusetts Amateur. His father,Rick, is a scratch golfer; his grandfather, Dick, lostto Ben Crenshaw in the semifinals of the Texas Amateur;and his uncle, Drew Stratton, played baseball forPrinceton and in the Oakland Athletics system. Stimetslives in Paxton and is the son of Rick Stimets and StaceyZawacki.Matt CarvilleAuburn High, SophomoreCarville shot a 10-over 81 at HoldenHills CC to place fifth in theCentral Mass. Division 2 tournamentand he carded a 9-over 79 in thestate Division 2 tourney. The5-foot-7, 135-pound Carville is onlya sophomore. He is a Southern<strong>Worcester</strong> County League All-Star.Having the opportunity to play in theCallaway Junior World Golf Championshipsat Torrey Pines GC in LaJolla, Calif., ranksas Carville’s most memorable sports moment. Carvilleenjoys playing hockey and he hopes to play on thePGA Tour one day. The<strong>Telegram</strong> & <strong>Gazette</strong> Football Offensive Player ofthe Year finished with 1,076 yards passing and13 touchdowns in the air, and 741 rushing yardsand 13 touchdowns on the ground. He wasnamed to the Division 2 West all-star team inaddition to earning MVP honors for a ThanksgivingDay victory over Shepherd Hill — thefirst time the Warriors had beaten the Rams in12 years. In that game, Lavallee racked up 193yards passing and 107 yards rushing with fourtotal touchdowns as Tantasqua held on for a32-27 win. Lavallee also stars in baseball andindoor track for the Warriors. Cole was named aMid-Wach all-star in indoor and outdoor track last yearand has been an integral part of both teams for thepast three years. Bourne also helped sparkFitchburg’s rally for a playoff spot atthe end of the season, as the Red Raiders won theirfinal four regular season games, including a ThanksgivingDay win over Leominster — Bourne’s mostmemorable sports moment — to earn the Division 1North title. One of the more sought-after recruits inCentral Mass., Bourne earned a football scholarshipto Boston College. The co-captain hopes to pursue adegree in sports medicine in college and enjoysweight lifting in his spare time. Bourne also was astandout track athlete for the Red Raiders for the pastthree seasons. As quarterback of theBlue Knights, he was second inpassing in Central Mass. with 1,860yards and threw for 15 touchdowns.He completed more than 100 passes,hitting at a 50 percent clip inleading Lunenburg to a 10-2 seasonthat ended with a 33-14 loss to Littleton in the Division3 playoff game — a reversal of its regular-seasonmeeting as well as last season’s playoff showdown.Grammel, a co-captain, said his most memorablesports moment was the 46-44, double-overtime,comeback win over Narragansett in which the BlueKnights rallied from a 14-point deficit with 3:50 left.Grammel was 20 of 37 for 398 yards and 5 TDs inthat game. The son of Robin and David Grammel ofFitchburg, he hopes to attend Bentley College.The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Hippert finished first in receptions andsecond in receiving yards in Central Mass., catching 52 passesfor 738 yards and eight touchdowns to earn the Division 2 WestOffensive MVP award. Hippert and teammate Mike Padro formedperhaps the top receiving tandem in the area as the Rams earneda berth in the Division 2 playoffs before falling to Auburn. Hippertwas a Division 2 West all-star as a sophomore and is also a standoutbasketball player for Northbridge. Also a strong defensive endfor coach Ken LaChapelle, Hippert enjoys sports and working outin his spare time. Omoegbekuse is a two-time Division1 East all-star and was named the league MVP thisyear. Also a standout defensive end for coach SeanMulcahy, Omoegbekuse recorded 69 tackles and fivesacks. Omoegbekuse has played basketball the pasttwo years for Doherty and he enjoys listening to musicand reading novels in his spare time and plans tostudy business in college. He is the son of JosephOmoegbekuse and Esther Poku of <strong>Worcester</strong>.Jon LerouxAuburn HighSenior, QuarterbackThe 6-foot-1, 210-pound Lerouxquarterbacked the Rockets to a12-1 season and the Division 2ASuper Bowl. Leroux was named tothe Division 2A All-Star team afterrushing for over 400 yards and 14touchdowns while completing 57of 90 passes for 1,106 yards and14 scores. Leroux is a four-yearstarter for coach Jeff Cormier andhas led the Rockets to a 40-8 mark and threeSuper Bowl appearances — and two championships— in that span. He counts the two Super Bowl winsas his most memorable sports moments. Portee also returneda kick 90 yards for a score against Shepherd Hill.Portee, who is also an honor roll student at NorthHigh, enjoys playing football and basketball in hisspare time and said he considers the time spent withhis teammates as his most memorable sportsmoments.Greg MendezFitchburg HighSenior, Running BackAlthough just 5-foot-6 and160-pounds, Mendez establishedhimself as a player that canmake big plays. Mendez helped theRed Raiders to the Division 1 SuperBowl and was named the Division 1North co-offensive MVP after rushingfor 1,352 yards and 10 touchdownson 172 carries. Mendez hadan impressive run in the playoffs,culminating with his performance in the Super Bowl, inwhich he rushed for 180 yards and a touchdownagainst a stout Longmeadow defense. Mendez hadone of his best performances in a Thanksgiving winover Leominster, scoring the winning touchdown inovertime to clinch the Division 1 North title and apostseason berth for the Red Raiders. Also a trackstar for Fitchburg, Mendez enjoys hanging out withfriends and family in his spare time and althoughundecided on college, he hopes to pursue a career inbusiness. He is the son of Jackie Garcia of Fitchburg.Corey RoyAuburn HighSenior, Running Back, KickerRoy does it all for the Rockets, asthe senior is a standout runningback, safety and kicker for theDivision 2A Super Bowl champions.Roy was named the Division 2 EastOffensive MVP after rushing for1,068 yards and 16 touchdowns,despite a stretch of games at theend of the season in which Auburnplayed its varsity in just the first half.Roy accounted for 143 of Auburn’s 313 points thisseason, including three field goals. A co-captain forcoach Jeff Cormier, Roy was injured in the first half ofAuburn’s Super Bowl game against previously undefeatedWahconah, but played sparingly in the secondhalf on an injured ankle and contributed a 28-yardfield goal and an interception on his one defensiveplay of the half that keyed a 17-0 win and the secondSuper Bowl title in four years. Roy hopes to pursue adegree in international business. Forcier is undecided on a college,but said he’d like to play both football and basketball,with an eye toward becoming a football coach orathletic director. His 101tackles this season ranked fifth in Central Mass., whilehe rushed for 1,069 yards (a 10.8 average) and 12touchdowns. A T&G divisional All-Star as a junior,Brigham said his most memorable sports moment wasthe Mountaineers’ 27-20 victory over St. John’s thisseason, in which he rushed for 131 yards and 2 TDs,including the winner with four minutes to play, whichknocked the Pioneers out of the playoffs. Brigham isthe brother of Dan Generelli, the former Wachusettpitcher who was drafted by the Red Sox. He’s the sonof Steve and Kathy Brigham of <strong>Worcester</strong>.Nicholas LaCroixGrafton HighSenior, LinebackerThe shifty LaCroix flourished underGrafton’s new double-wingoffense, leading Central Mass. inrushing in the regular season with1,564 yards and in carries with 263.He scored 16 touchdowns andadded six 2-point conversions for108 points, one of slightly more thana dozen CMass gridders to hit thecentury mark. The 6-foot,185-pounder also had four pass receptions for 91yards, a 22.8-yard average. Despite that heavy offensiveload, the senior running back/linebacker alsostood out on defense with 55 tackles and five sacksfor the Indians. On top of all that, LaCroix is also apretty fair baseball player, making the T&G divisionalAll-Star team as a junior. He has signed with FranklinPierce University, where he plans to play baseball andhopes to get drafted. He said signing with FranklinPierce was his most memorable sports moment. He’sthe son of Louis and Christine LaCroix of Grafton.Athree-sport captain (football, basketball, baseball), the 6-foot-1,178-pound senior quarterback/safety set the Leominster school singleseasonpassing record of 1,010 yards this season while completing morethan half of his passes (67 of 129), six of them for touchdowns. He alsoadded 499 rushing yards (a 9.4 average) and seven touchdowns on theground. O’Connor, a T&G divisional All-Star last season, was named co-MVPin Division 1 North this year as the Blue Devils battled their way to a winningseason (6-5) against arguably the toughest schedule in Central Mass. Thehighlight for O’Connor, he said, and his most memorable sports moment,was the 20-13 victory over then-undefeated and top-ranked St. John’s, inwhich he was 11 for 16 for 168 yards and two TDs, plus a team-high 28 yards rushing oneight carries. While he’s undecided on a college, O’Connor would like to become a lawyer, afootball coach, or work for the FBI. He’s the son of Oscar and Ann O’Connor of Leominster.

A linebacker at St.John’s since his sophomore year,Papoojian returned an interception 53 yards to set upa field goal in the Pioneers’ 13-7 triumph over St.John’s Prep in October. In lacrosse, he has been acaptain for two years, and has committed to VMI. Notsurprisingly, he has a rich athletic lineage; his father,Phil, was a four-year starter in baseball and football atSt. Bernard’s High and a center fielder for four yearsat Fitchburg State. After college, Papoojian plans acareer in the Navy, where he hopes to study and workinternationally. Asa defensive back, Perkins had onesack and five interceptions, which tied him for sixthplace in CMass. Two of those picks and a TD receptioncame in the Woolies’ 28-7 win over Southbridge,while Perkins added a TD catch and an interception ina 45-13 victory over Nipmuc Regional on SeniorNight, which he called his most memorable sportsmoment because four seniors scored. He’s undecidedon a college, but would like to study business ata southern school and someday become an entrepreneur.He’s the son of David and Pamela Perkins ofMillbury.Tyler RamseySouthbridge HighSenior, Strong SafetyThe 5-foot-11, 190-pound two-waystarter played a major role in theresurrection of the Southbridgefootball program, leading the Pioneersto a glittering 8-3 record.Ramsey, a repeater on the SuperTeam, played quarterback andstrong safety, completing 64 percentof his passes for 803 yards and11 touchdowns, while also rushing20 times for a 9-yard average and three TDs. Hecapped his career with an MVP performance onThanksgiving against archrival Bartlett — an interception,two TD passes and two rushing TDs. He calledthat victory, after five straight losses in the series, hismost memorable sports moment. The two-year captainalso stars as a pitcher/outfielder in baseball, andled the Southern <strong>Worcester</strong> County League West witha .487 batting average last season. He plans to playfootball in college, but hasn’t decided where yet. Smallwood, a co-captain, was also quarterbackof the 8-3 Highlanders, who tied a schoolrecord for most wins. He passed for 726 yardsand six touchdowns, and was one of the area’smost prolific running QBs with 724 yards and sixmore TDs. When teammate Tekena Omoegbekuse won the RalphRaymond Award as MVP of the Thanksgiving game against Burncoat,he handed the trophy over to Smallwood, who scored fourTDs — two rushing, one receiving, and one on an interception return.Last season, Smallwood was a league all-star in basketball, aT&G divisional All-Star in football, and an honor roll student.
