CHAPTER 10 ■ THINGS GO IN, THINGS GO OUTThis copies the /etc/xinetd.d/vnc file to /etc/xinetd.d/vnc800 and then changes the -geometry section ofthe server_args line in this new file to -geometry 800x600.Now use chkconfig to remove the vncserver startup links from the init.d directories (becauseyou’re now using xinetd to run it instead), stop it in case it’s already running, and restart xinetd:# chkconfig --level 2345 vncserver off# /etc/init.d/vncserver stop# /etc/init.d/xinetd restartTo connect, use this line on the client machine:vncviewer remote.example.com:5900That should be all you need to get a GDM login screen for your remote machine, running at1024×768.If you don’t have access to init and inetd, you can also ssh to the machine and then run xvncserverfrom that session. This is a bit less maintainable than doing it as described. You can also use the clientvinaigre for a slightly better-featured experience, but this isn’t available for all systems: vinaigreremote.example.com:5900.211Download at WoweBook.Com
