In addition tonewspapers, church bulletins,and the website, OCS hasused television, radio, andbillboards to highlight oursuccesses.Recently, Mr. Scott Lowe,OCHS Head Counselor, andMegan Aull, an OCHS senior, appeared on Around <strong>Owensboro</strong>, a local news show hosted by Jerry Birgeon <strong>Time</strong> Warner Cable channel 8. Mr. Lowe and Megan promoted the Aces Expo and invited all familiesinterested in OCHS to attend.During <strong>Catholic</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> Week, Mr. Ken Rasp, OCS Director, was interviewed on the show about thevarious activities being held at the school sites and to invite everyone to the Celebration <strong>of</strong> Faith massbeing held at the Sportscenter that week. Mr. Rasp was also interviewed on Channel 51 Magazine. Itaired on <strong>Time</strong> Warner Channel 51 in September and October.Cameron Carrico, an OCHS senior, was interviewed for the November edition <strong>of</strong> Sports Showcase.Cameron is Kentucky’s Mr. Golf and placed 2nd in the State.We have further reached families through various radio spots, used to highlight accomplishments andpromote events. Sister Frances Teresa from the Caramel Home interviewed them about how thegroup provides support to one another and volunteers at various activities.The SCRUBS group from OCHS promoted the Great American Smoke Out with a live broadcast onWBKR on November 16th. The group encouraged others to quit smoking or to assist a smoker to quitsmoking. The group has several sign-ups at local businesses to ‘quit cold turkey.’ The group drew namesfrom these sign ups for turkeys on the live broadcast.In addition, a new radio show, Aces Accolades, has begun to air on WIMM, the local <strong>Catholic</strong> radiostation, 107.7. The show airs on Wednesdays and Sundays at 3:30. The show is designed to reportaccomplishments and upcoming events. The show also includes an interview covering a wide range <strong>of</strong>topics. Most recently, the show has included interviews with Mr. Mark Woodward from OCMS aboutthe March for Life trip, with Matthew Jacobs from OCMS after the group returned from the March forLife, and Mrs. Ann Flaherty from OCHS about the National Merit Program.The new OCS promotional DVD has been mailed out. The video is an opportunity for families tovisually see and hear what OCS has to <strong>of</strong>fer students and families. Students and parent testimonials arefeatured throughout the video. The new OCS promotional video airs periodically on OCTV, Channel51 on <strong>Time</strong> Warner Cable.Mr. Scott Lowe, head guidance counselor at OCHS, was featured in the Messenger-Inquirer column'Teachable Moments' describing how his interest in teaching was fostered through mentors and othereducators.You may have also noticed the series <strong>of</strong> billboards around <strong>Owensboro</strong>. The billboards were eyecatchingto bring attention to the <strong>Owensboro</strong> <strong>Catholic</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> leading up to pre-registration.Our goal is to keep OCS on the top <strong>of</strong> families' minds!OCS Financial Aid Forms and Pre-Registration Forms Mailed OutOCS has recently mailed out the financial aid forms for the 2007-2008 school year. <strong>Owensboro</strong> Youth Hall <strong>of</strong> FameCongratulations to the following OCS students for being inducted into the <strong>Owensboro</strong> Youth Hall <strong>of</strong>Fame.Brittany Stark, daughter <strong>of</strong> Scott and ChristinaLowe, was inducted into the <strong>Owensboro</strong> Youth Hall<strong>of</strong> Fame in the category <strong>of</strong> Courage. Brittany, a seniorat OCHS, is a member <strong>of</strong> Precious Blood parish.OCMS Students AttendMarch for Life inWashington D.C.The OCHS bus left the parking lot early morning inJanuary with OCMS students from the Fellowship <strong>of</strong> ChristianAthletes group and 4 adult chaperones heading towardsWashington D.C. to attend the March for Life. After a longtrip, they finally reached their destination. The group stayedat an old seminary building and were hosted by a family fromthe D.C. area. They took a day to visit historical sites whichincluded several monuments, the White House, ArlingtonCemetery, and the Holocaust museum.The students, along with a huge, countless crowd,participated in a March for Life towards the Capital protestingthe Supreme Court decision Roe v Wade, legalizing abortion.The students participated in service projects in order to beable to make the trip. The group cleaned up a small cemeterylocated near OCMS. They were also required to make anentry into the national competition for life by writing an essayor a poem. The highlight <strong>of</strong> theweek was the gathering <strong>of</strong> all OCS students for aCelebration <strong>of</strong> Faith mass, with Bishop McRaith asthe celebrant and the parish priests joining us as well.Bishop McRatih reminded us to proclaim the goodnews <strong>of</strong> our schools to others and encourage themto join us.The Diocesan Spelling Bee was held on Monday,January 29th at Holy Name School.
