In addition tonewspapers, church bulletins,and the website, OCS hasused television, radio, andbillboards to highlight oursuccesses.Recently, Mr. Scott Lowe,OCHS Head Counselor, andMegan Aull, an OCHS senior, appeared on Around Owensboro, a local news show hosted by Jerry Birgeon Time Warner Cable channel 8. Mr. Lowe and Megan promoted the Aces Expo and invited all familiesinterested in OCHS to attend.During Catholic Schools Week, Mr. Ken Rasp, OCS Director, was interviewed on the show about thevarious activities being held at the school sites and to invite everyone to the Celebration of Faith massbeing held at the Sportscenter that week. Mr. Rasp was also interviewed on Channel 51 Magazine. Itaired on Time Warner Channel 51 in September and October.Cameron Carrico, an OCHS senior, was interviewed for the November edition of Sports Showcase.Cameron is Kentucky’s Mr. Golf and placed 2nd in the State.We have further reached families through various radio spots, used to highlight accomplishments andpromote events. Thank you to the following students for recording various radio spots:Brittany Mattingly for recording a radio spot to promote the Aces ExpoBrittany Stark, daughter of Scott and Christina Lowe, is a member of Precious Blood parish.Jenna Riney, daughter of Keith Riney, is a member of St. Alphonsus parish.Aubrey Clark, daughter of Kenneth and Caroline Clark, is a member of St. Pius X parish.Lyndsey Whitehouse, daughter of Richard and Lori Whitehouse, is a member of Blessed MotherParish.Chase Carrico, son of Kevin and Deborah Carrico, is a member of Blessed Mother Parish.Lindsey Whitehouse and Rachel Aull were interviewed on WIMM in September about the ‘Sisters inFaith’ group at OCMS. Sister Frances Teresa from the Caramel Home interviewed them about how thegroup provides support to one another and volunteers at various activities.The SCRUBS group from OCHS promoted the Great American Smoke Out with a live broadcast onWBKR on November 16th. The group encouraged others to quit smoking or to assist a smoker to quitsmoking. The group has several sign-ups at local businesses to ‘quit cold turkey.’ The group drew namesfrom these sign ups for turkeys on the live broadcast.In addition, a new radio show, Aces Accolades, has begun to air on WIMM, the local Catholic radiostation, 107.7. The show airs on Wednesdays and Sundays at 3:30. The show is designed to reportaccomplishments and upcoming events. The show also includes an interview covering a wide range oftopics. Most recently, the show has included interviews with Mr. Mark Woodward from OCMS aboutthe March for Life trip, with Matthew Jacobs from OCMS after the group returned from the March forLife, and Mrs. Ann Flaherty from OCHS about the National Merit Program.The new OCS promotional DVD has been mailed out. The video is an opportunity for families tovisually see and hear what OCS has to offer students and families. Students and parent testimonials arefeatured throughout the video. The new OCS promotional video airs periodically on OCTV, Channel51 on Time Warner Cable.Mr. Scott Lowe, head guidance counselor at OCHS, was featured in the Messenger-Inquirer column'Teachable Moments' describing how his interest in teaching was fostered through mentors and othereducators.You may have also noticed the series of billboards around Owensboro. The billboards were eyecatchingto bring attention to the Owensboro Catholic Schools leading up to pre-registration.Our goal is to keep OCS on the top of families' minds!OCS Financial Aid Forms and Pre-Registration Forms Mailed OutOCS has recently mailed out the financial aid forms for the 2007-2008 school year. Any family interested inenrolling their child is encouraged to fill out the financial aid forms. Owensboro Youth Hall of FameCongratulations to the following OCS students for being inducted into the Owensboro Youth Hall ofFame.Brittany Stark, daughter of Scott and ChristinaLowe, was inducted into the Owensboro Youth Hallof Fame in the category of Courage. Brittany, a seniorat OCHS, is a member of Precious Blood parish.OCMS Students AttendMarch for Life inWashington D.C.The OCHS bus left the parking lot early morning inJanuary with OCMS students from the Fellowship of ChristianAthletes group and 4 adult chaperones heading towardsWashington D.C. to attend the March for Life. After a longtrip, they finally reached their destination. The group stayedat an old seminary building and were hosted by a family fromthe D.C. area. They took a day to visit historical sites whichincluded several monuments, the White House, ArlingtonCemetery, and the Holocaust museum.The students, along with a huge, countless crowd,participated in a March for Life towards the Capital protestingthe Supreme Court decision Roe v Wade, legalizing abortion.The students participated in service projects in order to beable to make the trip. The group cleaned up a small cemeterylocated near OCMS. They were also required to make anentry into the national competition for life by writing an essayor a poem. The events were an excellent way for the studentsto further respect all life.Lindsey Whitehouse, daughter of Richard andLori Whitehouse, was inducted into the OwensboroYouth Hall of Fame in the category of CommunityService. Lindsey, an 8th grader at OCMS, is amember of Blessed Mother parish.Catholic Schools Week: The Good News inEducationThe Owensboro Catholic Schools joined Catholicschools across the nation to celebrate Catholic Schools:The Good News in Education. The highlight of theweek was the gathering of all OCS students for aCelebration of Faith mass, with Bishop McRaith asthe celebrant and the parish priests joining us as well.Bishop McRatih reminded us to proclaim the goodnews of our schools to others and encourage themto join us.The Diocesan Spelling Bee was held on Monday,January 29th at Holy Name School. Congratulationsto Ann-Claude Rakotoniaina, an OCMS 8th grader, on winning the Diocesan Spelling Bee for the MiddleSchool grade level.Congratulations to Chase Carrico, an OCS 6th grader, who placed 2nd in the Diocesan Spelling Bee forthe elementary grade level.The schools also had a Student Appreciation Day, which included special treats and a non-uniform day. We are excited with the successof this program and proud to offer it again for the2007-2008 school year.OCMS ChristmasPlay: Charlie BrownChristmasThe Drama Club at OCMS hosted a productionof Charlie Brown Christmas this past Christmasseason. It was an opportunity for the students toexplore drama and to try out their acting skills. Theplay was a hit and the students enjoyed workingtogether in all aspects of the production, dressrehearsals, makeup, backstage and stage managers.Boys Cross Country Team Win Back toBack State TitlesCongratulations to the Boys CrossCountry team on their second straight StateChampionship. The team and Coach ScottLowe took nothing for granted in this win."It's our goal to win the State Title and wekeep training to better ourselves throughout theseason," said Coach Lowe.
