We Are the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong>The name of our organization is the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong>, a tax-exemptmembership group of professional golfers that plays more than 100 officialmoneytournaments on three <strong>TOUR</strong>s – the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong>, Champions Tour andNationwide Tour. Our headquarters are located in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL,southeast of Jacksonville.We should never be referred to as the <strong>PGA</strong> as we are a differentorganization than the <strong>PGA</strong> (of America). We are the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong>. On secondreference, you can call us the <strong>TOUR</strong>.The <strong>PGA</strong> is the Professional Golfers’ Association of America, amembership organization for the nation’s club professionals. The <strong>PGA</strong> runs the<strong>PGA</strong> Championship, Senior <strong>PGA</strong> Championship and Ryder Cup Matches,among other championships. The <strong>PGA</strong> headquarters are located in Palm BeachGardens, FL.The <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> and <strong>PGA</strong> of America were affiliated until 1968, when thetournament players, a small subset of the total <strong>PGA</strong> membership, broke awayto form the Tournament Players Division and gain more control of their financesand tournament schedule. The Tournament Players Division was renamed the<strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> in 1975. While the two organizations still work closely togethertoday, the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> and <strong>PGA</strong> of America are separate entities.Two other American golf organizations are involved in men’s professionaltournament play, independent of the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> but with their marquee eventsincluded on the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> schedule as non-<strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> cosponsoredtournaments. The United States Golf Association, with headquarters in FarHills, NJ, oversees the national championships (U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open,U.S. Amateur, U.S. Women’s Amateur, etc.) and administers the Rules of Golf,among other duties. The Augusta (GA) National Golf Club plays host to theMasters Tournament.The Champions Tour will continue to combine extremely competitive golffor champions of the game age 50 and older with a fan-friendly platform thatpromotes “inside the ropes” and game-improvement for its fans. TheNationwide Tour grows as a virtual extension of the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong>.
