It wasthe most difficult course on the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> sinceBethpage State Park’s Black Course in 2002(74.901)…Overall, No. 8 (4.575) and No. 17 (4.489)ranked 1 and 4 on the 2003 <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> indifficulty…On the first day, the 455-yard, par-4eighth hole was the most difficult hole on the 2003<strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> for a single round at 4.832, eclipsing the18th hole at the Tournament Players Club atSawgrass in the final round (4.704) of THEPLAYERS Championship.The triple-bogey seven on No. 1 in the first roundwas Tiger Woods’ first triple-bogey since the sixthhole of his third round at the 2003 MemorialTournament. Prior to that, Woods hadn’t carded atriple since the first hole of the second round of the2002 Mercedes Championships. To put it inperspective, Woods went 1,606 holes without atriple bogey and has since recorded two in his last264 holes.Jerry Kelly’s 11 at the opening hole of the firstround was the highest score at the first hole of anOpen Championship since Bobby Clampett took aneight at Royal Birkdale’s par-4 first in the openinground in 1983.
