BAY HILL INVITATIONAL PRESENTED BY MASTERCARDNOTESTiger Woods’ 11-stroke victory in the 2003 BayHill Invitational bettered the tournament record forlargest margin of victory, nine strokes, set by FredCouples in 1992. His margin was the largest onthe <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> since Woods won the 2000 WGC-NEC Invitational by 11 strokes.Tiger Woods’ 11-stroke victory margin is thefourth time in his <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> career that he haswon a tournament by 10 or more strokes. Woodswon the 2000 U.S. Open by 15 shots, the 1997Masters Tournament by 12 shots and the 2000WGC-NEC Invitational by 11 strokes.Tiger Woods won the Bay Hill Invitational for thefourth consecutive time, becoming the first player in73 years to win the same event four consecutivetimes. Gene Sarazen was the last, winning theMiami Open in 1926, 1928-30. Tom Morris, Jr.(1868-71, 72 British Opens) and Walter Hagen (1924-27 <strong>PGA</strong> Championship) also accomplished the feat.At the 2003 Bay Hill Invitational, Tiger Woodsrecorded his 100th consecutive cut on the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong>.The Bay Hill Invitational has always drawn a stronginternational field, but in the 37-year history of thetournament, only one foreign-born player has emergedvictorious—South Africa’s Ernie Els in 1998.One of the more distinctive prizes in golf is the BayHill Invitational trophy. It is handcrafted by theWilkinson Company, which has a tradition in swordmakingextending back more than 200 years. Thesword, Scottish in recognition of the home of golf, isbased on the 16th century Highland Claymore.
