The namechanged to Nissan Los Angeles Open in 1989 and thento Nissan Open in 1995. Over the years, the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong>event has been held at 11 different courses.There have been 14 playoffs at the Nissan Open,including last year when Mike Weir made birdieon the second playoff hole to defeat CharlesHowell III. The most memorable playoff came in2001, when six players matched the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong>record for most participants in an extra-hole event,set at the 1994 GTE Byron Nelson Classic.
