SECTION 1 / INTROTimothy W. FinchemCommissionerAbout the CommissionerTimothy W. Finchem, 56, is the third Commissioner of the <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong>.Finchem succeeded Deane R. Beman as Commissioner on June 1, 1994.Beman had served for 20 years, replacing the late Joseph C. Dey, who hadbeen the <strong>TOUR</strong>’s Commissioner in its first five years, 1969-74.Finchem, Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer of the <strong>TOUR</strong>under Beman since 1989, joined the <strong>TOUR</strong> staff as Vice President of BusinessAffairs in 1987.As Commissioner, Finchem has greatly expanded the earningsopportunities for <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> players domestically and internationally. He alsohas taken leadership roles in the formation of the International Federation of<strong>PGA</strong> Tours and the World Golf Foundation, Inc.His personal dedication to the success of the World Golf Foundation’sFirst Tee initiative has helped that program achieve its initial objectives indeveloping facilities that will have an impact on the game for years to come.“Our primary purpose as a membership organization is to createoutstanding playing and earnings opportunities for our players,” Finchem says,“and we are proud of what our tournaments do for charity (more than $800million raised) and the active role we have been able to take as anorganization in growing the game for future generations.”Born in Ottawa, IL, on April 19, 1947, Finchem graduated from PrincessAnne High School in Virginia Beach, VA. He attended the University ofRichmond on a debate scholarship, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in1969. He graduated from the University of Virginia Law School in 1973.After practicing law in Virginia Beach for three years, Finchem served inthe White House as Deputy Advisor to the President in the Office of EconomicAffairs in 1978 and 1979. In the early 1980s, Finchem co-founded the NationalMarketing and Strategies Group in Washington, D.C.Finchem is recipient of the Golf Course Superintendents Association ofAmerica’s Old Tom Morris Award for 2001 and the <strong>PGA</strong> of America'sDistinguished Service Award for 2002.Married to the former Holly Bachand, Finchem is a father of four.
