One indicator which is both an MDG and UNGASSindicator is the percentage of young women who havecomprehensive and correct knowledge of HIV preventionand transmission. In Serbia’s MICS all interviewees(women and men) who had heard of AIDS were askedwhether they knew of the two main ways of HIVtransmission — having only one faithful uninfectedpartner and using a condom every time. The resultsare presented in Table HA.1. In Serbia, nearly all of theinterviewed women (99 percent) had heard of AIDS.However, the percentage of women who knew of twoways of preventing HIV transmission was 84 percent.Overall, 88 percent of women knew of having one faithfuluninfected sex partner and 91 percent knew about usinga condom every time, as two ways of preventing HIVtransmission.
