Coverage <strong>of</strong>antenatal care (by a doctor, nurse, or midwife) is high inRoma settlements in Serbia with 94 percent <strong>of</strong> womenreceiving antenatal care from skilled personnel at leastonce during the pregnancy. Table RH.7R showsthe number <strong>of</strong> antenatal care visits during the last pregnancyduring the two years preceding the survey (regardless <strong>of</strong>provider) by selected characteristics. Some 85 percent <strong>of</strong>mothers from Roma settlements received antenatal care morethan once and 72 percent received antenatal care at least fourtimes. Mothers from households with low living standard andthose with no education are less likely than more advantagedmothers to receive ANC four or more times. For example,45 percent <strong>of</strong> women living in the poorest quintile reportedfour or more antenatal care visits compared with 82percent among those living in households in the richestquintile. Almost 14 percent <strong>of</strong> mothers who did not finishprimary education and 12 percent <strong>of</strong> mothers from thepoorest quintile had no ANC visits during their pregnancy.MONITORING THE SITUATION OF CHILDREN AND WOMEN 129
