Admission and Entry1.1 General Academic Admissiona) Candidates are required to have:i) a m<strong>in</strong>imum of 12 credits at NCEA <strong>Level</strong> 1 <strong>in</strong> English, or an equivalent qualification.1.2 Special AdmissionDomestic applicants aged 20 years or above who have not met <strong>the</strong> General Admission or entryrequirements for a programme but whose skills, education or work experience <strong>in</strong>dicate that <strong>the</strong>yhave a reasonable chance of success may be eligible for Special Admission. Special admissionwill be granted at <strong>the</strong> discretion of <strong>the</strong> relevant Head of School/Centre Director or designatednom<strong>in</strong>ee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridg<strong>in</strong>g ortertiary <strong>in</strong>troductory programme as a condition of entry <strong>in</strong>to higher level programmes.1.3 Provisional EntryDomestic applicants aged under 20 years who have not met <strong>the</strong> general academic admission andentry criteria for a programme but who can demonstrate a reasonable chance of successthrough o<strong>the</strong>r educational atta<strong>in</strong>ment and/or work or life experience may be eligible forprovisional entry at <strong>the</strong> discretion of <strong>the</strong> relevant Head of School/Centre Director or designatednom<strong>in</strong>ee. Provisional entry places restrictions on re‐enrolment to be lifted if <strong>the</strong> applicant’sperformance is deemed satisfactory by <strong>the</strong> relevant Head of School/Centre Director ordesignated nom<strong>in</strong>ee.1.4 Selection Criteriaa) Candidates will be required to attend an <strong>in</strong>terview and may be asked to complete writtenassessments to gauge eligibility to enter <strong>the</strong> programme.b) Prior to commenc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> programme all successful candidates will be required tocomplete and submit a “Consent to Disclosure of Information” form. Candidates shouldbe aware that some types of crim<strong>in</strong>al conviction may prevent <strong>the</strong>m from access<strong>in</strong>g clientsand/or workplace experience, and complet<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> programmec) Candidates are required <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir applications to <strong>in</strong>dicate whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>y have had a physicalor mental condition that is likely to impact on <strong>the</strong>ir participation on <strong>the</strong> programme.Candidates should be aware that some types of physical or mental conditions mayprevent <strong>the</strong>m from participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> elements of <strong>the</strong> programme and that <strong>in</strong>dication of anycondition will allow <strong>the</strong> opportunity for appropriate support to be provided.<strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Services</strong>Version: 15.00AAC: 02.09.14 Page 1 of 3


Programme Regulations for:1.5 English Language Requirementsa) Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an InternationalEnglish Language Test System (IELTS) score of 6.0, with no <strong>in</strong>dividual band score lowerthan 5.5; or equivalent2. Transfer of Credit2.1. 100% transfer of credit is available for this programme (both formal transfer of credit andrecognition of prior learn<strong>in</strong>g).3. Programme Requirement3.1. Every candidate for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Services</strong> (<strong>Level</strong> 4) shall to <strong>the</strong> satisfaction of <strong>the</strong>Academic Board follow a programme of study for a period of normally not less than 1 year.3.2. Each full time candidate is required to complete all <strong>the</strong> modules listed <strong>in</strong> Group A section 6totall<strong>in</strong>g 120 credits.3.3. Part time students must complete <strong>the</strong> modules <strong>in</strong> List A before complet<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> modules <strong>in</strong> List Bas specified <strong>in</strong> Group B.4. Completion of <strong>the</strong> Programme4.1. A candidate may take up to three years to complete this programme unless an extension isgranted by special permission of <strong>the</strong> Head of School/Centre Director.5. Award of <strong>the</strong> Qualification5.1. Candidates who successfully complete <strong>the</strong> requirements <strong>in</strong> sections 3.1 and 3.2 will receive <strong>the</strong>award of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Services</strong> (<strong>Level</strong> 4).5.2. The <strong>Certificate</strong> will be awarded with Merit if a candidate achieves merit passes for 11 out of <strong>the</strong>15 modules. In order to ga<strong>in</strong> a Merit Pass for a module candidates are required to demonstrateei<strong>the</strong>r:a) Depth and breadth of knowledge,b) Superior organisational and communication skills, orc) Superior written academic conventions e.g. APA referenc<strong>in</strong>g.5.3. All Merit Passes must be approved by <strong>the</strong> Programme Committee.5.4. Candidates who successfully complete <strong>the</strong> requirements <strong>in</strong> sections 3.1 and 3.2 will also beeligible to apply to <strong>the</strong> New Zealand Qualifications Authority for <strong>the</strong> National <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Social</strong><strong>Services</strong> (<strong>Level</strong> 4).<strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Services</strong>Version: 15.00AAC: 02.09.14 Page 2 of 3
