The Split maintaina frosty friendship with the Paranid but will neverforgive them for not joining with them in the fightagainst the Xenon.The Split ShipsThe Split are typical warriors who if unable to eliminatean enemy with the first shot, call straight away for abigger weapon or more support. They are impatient and have to be the first in any combat. Intheir ship construction therefore, shields take a back seat. In a particular constructionproposal shields were fitted retrospectively as they were simply forgotten.Their engineers today still complain of the missed opportunity to fit 2 Gamma HEPT instead of2 Beta HEPT into their design. Nevertheless, Split ships are some of the best combat ships ifyou are prepared to live with weak shielding but have the strongest and deadliest weaponsinstead.It was with extreme reluctance that a few Split traders had Ion disruptors fitted into their cargotransporters. But then they discovered that they could use them to hunt Spaceflies. That iswhy the Split personnel transporter, the most luxurious and lavishly fitted out ship for Splithunting parties, can be fitted with the Ion disruptors. Sometimes theyare even referred to as stupid, but that is only by racesthat have never traded with them. The Teladi drive someof the hardest bargains in the X Universe, and alwayscome out of a situation with a profit. This is the reasonwhy certain races have banned the Teladi from trading intheir territories or sectors. Hence the Teladi are alwayson the look out for trading partners. It is believed thatthey finance many of the pirate operations that operatethroughout the X Universe. Indeed many races think it isno coincidence that their ships have been captured andtheir high-tech equipment looted by pirates after refusingto trade with the Teladi.Their own technology tends to lag behind the rest of theoccupants of the X Universe but, being Teladi, theywould rather buy and trade what they need rather then spend their money in research anddevelopment. Hence the Teladi have access to all the high-tech equipment, engines andweapon technology of almost all the other races.
