The data collected through the system of HMIS consists of volumes of in<strong>for</strong>mation but this is of little use,unless it is converted to relevant in<strong>for</strong>mation through the application of intelligence. Indicators arethere<strong>for</strong>e derived from this data and are used as variables that indicate a particular condition orsituation. These indicators point towards programme per<strong>for</strong>mance in different areas and help identifyproblem areas to enable corrective action.
