PaintingsThe painting should be rolled firmly to avoidcreases, with the painted side out on a large-diametertube. The painted side should be rolled on the outside toavoid contraction of the paint layer which is likely tocause cracking over time. Rolling the painting on a largediametertube puts less strain on the paint layer and isless likely to leave distortions on the surface. The diameterof the tube depends on the size of the painting butshould not be smaller than 200 mm and a large paintingshould be on a 400 mm tube or larger. The tube shouldbe covered in an acid-free tissue or Tyvek, and thesematerials should be rolled with the painting to separatethe layers. The tube can be stored on padded blocks at eitherend (avoiding the painting) or suspended with a chain orpole through the centre of the tube.
