This new model providesimproved supplier management and performanceinformation and allows <strong>EDP</strong> to verify theinformation reported by suppliers.Corporate SocialResponsibilityIn the scope of the SRM and in the followupto the questionnaire on corporate socialresponsibility that is taken when suppliersregister, a new functionality has beenimplemented in Portugal that makes it possibleto gather information on the following dimensionsof Corporate Social Responsibility: Leadership;Dialogue; Communication and TransparencyManagement Systems – including the sub-themesof bribery, corruption, integrity and ethics.On the basis of the information introduced inthese dimensions, each supplier is given an RSCrating in line with the assessment matrix definedfor the <strong>EDP</strong> Group (shown in the figure below).CLASSIFICATION A+B A A+SUPPLIERS BELLOWAVERAGECURRENT POSITIONOF THE SUPPLIER40.57SUPPLIERS SCORINGWITHIN THE AVERAGERANKINGBOUNDARY<strong>EDP</strong> - <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> 201296SUPPLIERS ABOVETHE AVERAGEThis classification system was already beingimplemented in Spain and will also be appliedin Brazil.In the follow-up to the “More Sustainability inthe Supply Chain” pilot programme in the areasof health and safety developed in collaboration witha supplier – Siemens – to improve performancein the supply chain, we may highlight the followingactivities developed in 2012: preparation of an actionprotocol for the works in Venda Nova III, using assource a letter of commitments regarding health andoccupational safety, signed by the contractor andmain stakeholders in the consortium. The aim is topromote and reinforce good hiring practices throughthe supply chain.Also in 2012 work began on preparing an ethicsand integrity training/awareness creation planin Portugal for suppliers classified as major risks.The plan is to enter into operation in 2013.In the context of the Group VolunteeringProgramme, <strong>EDP</strong> invited business partners tojoin its social responsibility initiative, “Parte deNós” [It’s up to us]. The specific challenge hereis to help Portuguese forests by drawing attentionto the importance of biodiversity and the threatof invasive species.<strong>EDP</strong>artners<strong>EDP</strong> has established a system for recognisingthe merits of its suppliers. The aim is to identifythe company’s best suppliers and adopt goodpractices in key areas for the competitiveness ofboth the suppliers and the <strong>EDP</strong> Group.On the occasion of the first edition of the<strong>EDP</strong>artners Awards (www.edpartners.edp.pt),<strong>EDP</strong> awarded its “Supplier of the Year” accoladefor excellence to the Portuguese company Solidal.This was the first exclusive event for suppliers,the aim being to strengthen already existingrelations between <strong>EDP</strong> and its partners andidentify and promote good practices in key areasfor competitiveness of the <strong>EDP</strong> Group and itsstakeholders.Focusing on operations in Portugal for thefirst edition of the awards, <strong>EDP</strong> received 164applications from 120 suppliers. The supplierassessment process was supported by theCatholic University of Portugal (Porto) atthe technical/scientific level. A number ofacknowledged figures in the field of assessmentwere invited to be members of the jury.In addition to a trophy and a certificate forparticipation, the winners in the four competitioncategories (Relationship with the Client; SharingGood Practices; Innovation; and Corporate SocialResponsibility) and the Award for Excellencewere also rewarded with an energy efficiencyaudit to be carried out by <strong>EDP</strong> Comercial.All the prize winners received a cash prize of25,000 € (50,000 € in the case of ExcellenceAward) to be allocated to charities with whichthe <strong>EDP</strong> Foundation has projects in place and areincluded in the Lisbon Social Stock Exchange.Given the multinational profile of the Group,<strong>EDP</strong> plans to expand the scope of this competitionbeyond the borders of Portugal in comingeditions, allowing it to carry out an internationalbenchmarking exercise and contribute to theimprovement of business management andpractices and strengthen the competitivecapacities of both <strong>EDP</strong> and its partners. The nextedition of the <strong>EDP</strong>artners Awards is scheduledfor 2014 on a global scale.Supplier RoadshowAs part of the <strong>EDP</strong>artners concept, and aimedat enhancing existing partnerships and continuingto acknowledge the work carried out by ourpartners, <strong>EDP</strong> is planning a “Supplier Roadshow”initiative.The aim of this initiative is twofold:º º to focus on and strengthen relationshipsbetween the <strong>EDP</strong> Group and its suppliersby contribuing to the creation of value forsuppliers and, consequently, for <strong>EDP</strong>, usingthe leverage of the internationalisation ofitsbusiness relationships and opportunitiesº º to promote dialogue and interaction betweensuppliers and buyers in the Group’s variousgeographic regions and stakeholders, providingprivileged contacts through exchanges and/orpartnerships that will foster opportunities forinternational business operations in emergingmarkets; these can be in the areas of export,import and joint venture partnerships.Given that business opportunities in the comingyears will be concentrated mostly in the Asianand Latin American markets, <strong>EDP</strong> will beorganising two roadshows in 2013 – one in SãoPaulo and one in Beijing. These roadshows willfocus on increasing exports, growing the exportbase, diversifying markets and strengthening thepresence of Portuguese companies in strategicmarkets, with the aim of giving the companiesthe knowledge and tools necessary for thedevelopment and success of their internationalbusiness operations, be it in partnerships orstrategic alliances.81
