-GLUCOSE AND CHOLESTEROL UPTAKE BY THE OVARY OF THE SHEEPA.R.Rabiee, I.J. Lean, J.M. Gooden and B.G. MillerDepartment of Animal Science, University of Sydney, Camden NSW 2570INTRODUCTIONThe dramatic cyclic changes in growth and steroid and protein output of the ovary suggest that theovary is a highly metabolically active organ. Knowledge of ovarian affinity and demand for energysubstrates used for steroid and protein hormone production should lead to improved understandingof ovarian nutrient requirements to ensure successful reproductive performance. Also important is thestudy of relationships between uptake of different variables because factors influencing ovarianuptake of nutrients may be identified. We have previously found that the small ovarian mass of sheepmay limit our ability to detect small, but significant uptake of metabolites, glucose uptake wassignificant for all sheep pooled (P
