But further, ourirrational life is Titanic, by which the rational<strong>and</strong> higherlife is torn in pieces. Hence,when we disperse the Dionysus, or intuitiveintellectcontained in the secret recesses ofour nature, breaking in pieces the kindred<strong>and</strong> divine form of our essence, <strong>and</strong> whichcommunicates, as it were, both with thingssubordinate <strong>and</strong> supreme, then we becomeTitans (or apostates) ;but when we establishourselves in union with this Dionysiacal orkindred form, then we become Bacchuses, orperfect guardians <strong>and</strong> keeperstional life :spect we resemble, isof our irrafor Dionysus, whom in this rehimself an ephorus or*The Demiurge or Creator being superiorto matter in whichis concupiscence <strong>and</strong> all evil, the Titans who are not thus superiorare made the actual artificers.
