ADAM BURFORDThe biggest compliment I can pay to Adam Burford is to say that I personally “rank” him in the CharliePrider mould as to commitment to the Football Club over an extended period of many years………..a muchyounger version of course though!“Burf’s” love for the Football Club has seen him play in all grades and he has always been prepared to getbehind the Club and do whatever he can to support his fellow players, coaches and the Club in any wayhe could. Those of you who are younger would not know of Burf’s heroics especially during the “98 “A” GradePremiership, the last senior flag captured by the Club in which he played in integral part in securing ourvictory.Dating back to 1997 when the “A” Grade also went top Burf was very unluckily dropped for/during thefinals series that eventually saw us break a 22 year premiership drought after being a regular in the teamfor the season. Burf was not overly impressed and naturally deeply disappointed and could have takenthe easy way out and dropped his bundle but proudly supported the side during the season and againfronted for training and played on in 1998.Burf was selected for the Grand Final which Roger Rasheed was playing coach and I was his AssistantCoach / Bench Coach during the 2 years………now for the finals story, and “Burf’s story”.Burf was given a job on one of their playmakers on the wing and ran with him very hard all day definitelycutting out the player’s influence. Early in the last quarter Burf signaled to the runner to say that he wasout of puff and to take him off so someone else could take over so he would not let the side down. He wasduly taken off and sat on the bench and to this day I believe he felt his day was over in what was a closecontest with Old Ignatians who were favoured to win. With about 6 or 7 minutes to go one of our forwardflankers came down with an injury and with 2 other fit players to select from on the bench I threw Burfback on. With a couple of minutes to go Burf “muscled” his way in front of his opponent and was awardeda free kick on the flank 50 metres out (not a word of a lie it was that far, though “folk lore” now says it was80 metres) and with tired legs timed a perfect drop punt through the middle to give us a 2 goal lead whichproved to be decisive in the close win.You could certainly say that the “demons of ‘97” (by missing out on the ’97 Premiership) were dead andburied as Burf rose to the occasion and had his heroic day that none of us who know the history behind itwill ever forget. Many of the younger lads in the Club have now benefitted from Burf’s leadership over many seasons inthe lower grades where he is always prepared to offer advice and support to not only the players but alsoTerry Harding this season and all of the other coaches he has played under in the past. He always workshard on the track when his teaching and family commitments allow him to attend, with he and his wife

welcoming their 2nd child into the world some short weeks ago. He is always up near the front in thefitness work on the track always encouraging others to push and train harder to achieve the maximumresults for themselves and the team.Burf has been and still is a great inspiration to all of us and it has certainly been my honour to have beenassociated with an inspirational player and fellow Life Member that Burf is.Well done mate and enjoy the occasion.Chris MehaffeyI have had the pleasure of playing with Burf for quite a few years now - to play 250 games requires atleast 13 seasons. 13 years of committment to slogging through the preseason and the cold wettrainings. 13 years of risking head and skin and fighting for a win. In any weather Adam wasthere usually with a grin. We have shared some triumphs (the 2005 C Grade premiership) and somedisasters (losing the 1997 B grade grandfinal). Adam has shown great mental resilience over thejourney. He overcame the dissapointment of missing out on playing in the 1997 A grade premiership bybouncing back the next year and kicking the match sealing goal in the 1998 A grade premiership - one ofmy fondest football memories. My first memories of Burf are as a very fit footballer thanks to his summerathletics pursuits. The nickname Baywatch gives a clue to his buffed and tanned appearance at preseason. The great thing about footy is that it is a game in which needs a combination of different types ofplayers to play - ball getters vs ball carriers, defenders, midfielders and forwards. Burf is highly skilledand good at carrying the ball down the field over the lines. He has mainly played on the wing and isadept at finding space, even on the smallest of grounds. Burf is a very versatile player having playedoffensive and defensive roles. He has shown great leadership by volunteering to take on some keydefensive roles at fullback when his size is better suited to that of a flanker or pocket. In particular Iremember a game against Ovingham when he volunteered to stand their full-forward who was carvingus up. Adam restricted him for the remainder of the match despite the intimidation and thuggery thatwas served up to him. A testament to his skill and courage. He has also stepped up as an assistantcoach on a number of occaisions, and I know Terry is particularly grateful for Burf's help with the C gradethis year. I have enjoyed playing with him over the years and am proud to have him as premiershipteam mate.Congratulations and welcome to the clubMark ‘Charlie’ Prider

Congrats on reaching the 250 milestone Big fella. Lets hope its as good as your 200th where you had avictory and Amber fluid tipped on your head. Its a shame that your hard ball gets havent gone up in thelast 50 but enjoy the milestone and keep those old legs pumping away from the packs.Best WishesRajesh SinghI played footy with Burf on and off from high school until I retired a few years back. I can’t believe thegreat man is still pulling on the boots, but given his level of fitness, I’m not really surprised. I was alwaysa little jealous of Burf’s natural athleticism and skill, but this was adequately compensated for by hisinability to get a hard ball ;-) It was great playing with Burf, as he always mades me look harder than Iactually was!!! It was also handy to always have someone waiting to receive deep on the wing (hey,‘Seagull’). That being said, once he got the ball, it was rare that anybody could catch him, and healways made good use of his possessions. In all seriousness, Burf has been a great provider for the club, both on-field, and more recently off it. It isa testament to his love of playing for the Green and Gold that he has reached such a significant gamesmilestone and I wish him a hearty congratulations. Well done, mate. I’m looking forward to seeing youjoin the 300 Club in a few years time.Cheers,Toby Hughes.Burf’s 200
