A remarkably refined 1.6-litre, 128 kW turbo engine with direct fuel injection for a more evenmix of fuel and air (which translates as more power), ‘valvetronic’ variable inlet valves to optimise torque at lowrevs and power at high revs, plus a twin scroll turbocharger, which produces an impressive 240 Nm of torque fromas low as 1600 rpm. The overboost feature raises the torque to a breathtaking 260 Nm on full throttle, should youneed an extra burst of power for overtaking. Little wonder then, that the Peugeot 207 GTi’s engine drove off withthe prestigious International Engine of the Year Award in 2007.So what does that mean on the road? Quite simply, exceptional driveability and exhilarating responses – a car that performseffortlessly throughout the rev range, so you don’t have to keep dropping down through the slick, 5-speed manual gearbox toget the best out of it. Of course, it’s one thing to be able to produce power, and quite another to be able to control it. Which iswhy our engineers also invested a great deal of time in up-rating the brakes, chassis and suspension. For greater, fade-resistantstopping power they fitted larger brakes, front and rear (302 mm and 249 mm). The advanced suspension system they devisedfeatures modified springs and shock absorbers, plus a unique anti-roll bar up front. At the rear it includes modified shockabsorbers and different settings.
