7. Church web site and e-mail. Another effective meansof advertising the church today is the Internet. TheInternet has become an integral part of most people’slives. Every church should have its own attractive, wellmaintainedweb site and e-mail address. The web siteshould include all of the basic information that visitorswould want to know about the church, such asdescription and times of services, doctrinal statement,brief church history, biographical sketches of the pastors,and description of the church programs. The site shouldinclude a map to the church. Many churches also usetheir web sites for evangelism and teaching. Somechurches put their church papers on the web. There areendless ways for churches to communicate the Word ofGod via the Internet.8. The Way of Life Literature Church Directory. Way ofLife maintains a directory of select fundamental Baptistchurches that have successfully filled out ourquestionnaire. This directory is used by people who aretrying to locate a good church for themselves or for theirfriends and loved ones. See wayoflife.org.
Gospel TractsGospel tracts and pamphlets are very important tools inevangelism. The printing press is a wonderful gift fromGod and has been used greatly for the glory of JesusChrist. The printed page can greatly multiply our effortsin the service of the Lord and tracts can oftentimes goplaces where we cannot go.Be Careful about the MessageThe first consideration in the use of gospel tracts is to becertain that the content is scriptural.There are three problems with the average gospel tract:1. Many tracts do not contain a clear and biblicalpresentation of the gospel. Many refer to salvation in anunscriptural and confusing manner, such as “asking Jesusinto your heart” or “giving your life to Christ.” Salvationis not giving one’s life to Christ; it is trusting the finishedcross-work of Christ. Nowhere in the New Testament dowe see the Lord Jesus or the apostles telling people togive their lives to Christ or to ask Jesus into their hearts.We need to follow the Bible in the terminology we use sothat people are not confused about what salvationinvolves and so they do not make false professions offaith.2. The second serious drawback is that most tracts do notdeal with repentance. Most don’t even mention the wordor even hint at the concept, yet the Lord Jesus Christ andHis apostles preached repentance plainly and demandedit from those who would be saved. Salvation only comesby “repentance toward God, AND faith toward our Lord
