In June 2012, The County hadthe fifth lowest unemployment rate in the State (7.9%) 2 . While unemployment rate in Garden Grovewas slightly higher (9.9%), it was lower than the State as a whole (10.7%). In 2012, the StateEmployment Development Department estimated that Garden Grove had a labor force ofapproximately 86,000 persons 3 , or 5% of the County’s total labor force.Table 7 shows the type of occupations held by Garden Grove residents. Between 2000 and 2012,there was an increase in the proportion of residents with managerial/professional, sales, and officejobs, and those in service occupations. This is an important trend, as managerial jobs have thehighest earnings in the City and service occupations have the lowest (Table 8). The job distributionin Garden Grove may cause the overall median income to level off or decline as income gainsmade by residents with managerial occupation may be offset by residents with service occupations.Compared with residents in the County as a whole, Garden Grove residents hold fewermanagerial/professional jobs.2Labor Force Data for Sub County Areas.
