File: GBEAUNLAWFUL MANUFACTURE, DISTRIBUTION, DISPENSING,POSSESSION OR USE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCEThe Goochland County School Board is committed tomaintaining a Drug-Free W<strong>or</strong>kplace.Prohibited ConductEmployees may not unlawfully manufacture, distribute,dispense <strong>or</strong> possess a controlled substance on school property,at any school activity <strong>or</strong> on any school-spons<strong>or</strong>ed trip. It is acondition of employment that each employee of the GoochlandCounty School Board will not engage in such prohibited conductand will notify the Goochland County School Board of anycriminal drug conviction f<strong>or</strong> a violation occurring in the w<strong>or</strong>kplace no later than 5 days after such conviction.DisciplineThe Superintendent and School Board will take appropriatepersonnel action up to and including dismissal of any employeefound to have engaged in prohibited conduct listed above. Suchpersonnel action will include the imposition of a sanction on <strong>or</strong>the requiring of the satisfact<strong>or</strong>y participation in a drug abuseassistance <strong>or</strong> rehabilitation program by, any employee who isconvicted of a violation of any criminal drug statute.<strong>Distribution</strong> of PolicyAll employees shall be given a copy of this policy.Drug-Free Awareness ProgramThe Goochland County School Board shall establish a drugfreeawareness program to inf<strong>or</strong>m its employees about the dangersof drug abuse in the w<strong>or</strong>kplace, the Board’s policy ofmaintaining a drug-free w<strong>or</strong>kplace, and available drugcounseling, rehabilitation, and employee assistance programs,and the penalties that may be imposed upon employees f<strong>or</strong>violations of laws and policies regarding drug abuse.© 5/02 VSBA GOOCHLAND COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
