Mohammad Shirvani, Iran, 201328 JULY 20:00 SUNCOAST AThis surreal exercise in absurdism from Iranian director Mohammad Shirvani introducesus to a particularly odd father and son. The older man (Levon Haftvan) is obese, unhealthyand oppressive in his dealings with his son (Navid Mohammadzadeh), who is deaf andmute. In a series of cryptic and strangely hypnotic episodes, a tyrannical paternalism isrevealed, one that has long since hardened into a closed circuit of mutual pain. Boldly andunabashedly experimental, but also deliberately obscure and frustratingly structured, thefilm challenges audiences to engage with its strange filmic language. Fat Shaker won theTiger Award in Rotterdam earlier this year. African Premiere.Dari and Persian with English subtitles, 84 min
