78Standards for female and male Sterilization servicesPost-operative Instructions1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.Please come for follow-up:a) After 48 hours for check-upb) On the 7 th day for stitch removal (for conventional vasectomy)c) After 3 months for semen analysisd) In an emergency as and when requiredMedication as prescribed.Scrotal support or snug undergarment for 48 hours.Return home and take adequate rest.Resume normal work after 48 hours and return to full activity, including cycling, withinone week following surgery.Resume a normal diet as soon as possible.Keep the operated area clean and dry, and do not disturb or open the dressing.The client may bathe after 24 hours, with the operated part of the body protected. If thedressing becomes wet, it should be changed. After 48 hours, the dressing can be taken off.The client may have intercourse whenever it is comfortable after the surgery but mustensure use of condom if his wife/partner is not using contraception. Vasectomy does notinterfere with sexual pleasure, ability, or performance.10.11.The client should use another method of contraception for at least 3 months followingvasectomy or until the semen analysis shows no sperms. Should use condom if his wife/partner is not using contraception.Report to the doctor or clinic if there is excessive pain, fainting, fever, bleeding, increasein scrotal size, or pus discharge from the operated site.12.
