<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> of Pennsylvania 77Non-Clinical Courses Students may earn a gradeof “C” in only one non-clinical course withoutjeopardizing their status in the program. If anadditional grade of “C” is earned, the student will beautomatically placed on probation. Students placed onprobation must repeat a “C” course and earn a grade of“B” or better the next semester the course is offered orbe removed from the program. Only two “C” gradescan be repeated. Additional grades of “C” will be causefor removal from the program.Clinical Courses Students must maintain a “B”average in all clinical courses. If a grade of “C” orbelow is earned, the student will be automaticallyplaced on probation. Students placed on probationmust repeat that clinical course and earn a grade of“B” or better the next semester that course is offeredor be removed from the program. Students can repeatone clinical course. An additional “C” in any clinicalcourse will be cause for removal from the program.AdvisementAs part of the application process, the candidate mustmeet with a faculty member for an admission interview.Upon admission to the graduate nursing program, thestudent will be assigned a faculty advisor. The studentmay select an advisor from <strong>Clarion</strong>, Edinboro, or SlipperyRock graduate faculty. Before beginning coursework,the successful applicant should meet with the graduateadvisor for orientation and assistance in planning thefirst-semester program.A minimum of nine credits per semester is considereda full load for graduate students, although students mayregister for up to twelve credits per semester withoutspecial permission. Students may not register for morethan twelve semester hours during the summer. Exceptionsmay be authorized by the Coordinator of <strong>Graduate</strong>Studies at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> upon recommendation bythe graduate faculty acting upon a written petition by thestudent.NursingProgression PolicyStudents must maintain a “B” average or better inorder to remain in good standing and a grade of “B” orhigher in each clinical course in order to progress in theclinical sequence.Readmission PolicyStudents who withdraw from the program withoutsecuring a leave of absence, leave because of unsatisfactoryperformance, or fail to complete the program requirementsin six years (or by the approved extension date) may applyfor readmission to the nursing program if they have acumulative QPA of 3.0.The Admission, Progression, and Graduation committeewill evaluate student requests for readmission and makea recommendation to the graduate faculty based on thefollowing criteria: general academic history; grade-pointaverage; clinical performance as evaluated by graduatenursing faculty and preceptors; time absent from theacademic program; and potential for success. Readmissionto the nursing program is based on the professionaljudgment of the graduate nursing faculty and is contingentupon class size (space available).Graduation PolicyStudents must have an overall QPA of 3.0 in orderto graduate from the program. The maximum timefor completion of the degree program is six calendaryears. Students must finish the program no later thantwo semesters after completing the clinical practice andresearch requirements.It is the student’s responsibility to file, with the aid ofhis or her advisor, an Application for Graduation prior tothe published deadline during the semester in which heor she intends to graduate.
