(Revised April 2006)Program ObjectivesThe major objective is to provide a basic core ofknowledge about various theories, techniques, andpractices relating to business administration and problemsolving. In addition, candidates for the degree have anopportunity for in-depth study in a areas of interest.Specific objectives are to prepare candidates for:• positions in middle management with private andpublic organizations;• teaching positions in community colleges;• enrollment in doctoral programs in businessadministration.The program is designed for candidates withundergraduate degrees not only in business administrationbut also in other disciplines. <strong>Graduate</strong> courses are offeredin the evening for the convenience of employed or parttimestudents.The College of Business Administration at <strong>Clarion</strong><strong>University</strong> is accredited by AACSB International—TheAssociation to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.Admission RequirementsDivision of <strong>Graduate</strong> Studies admission requirementsapply with the following additions:• Students must submit official scores on the <strong>Graduate</strong>Management Admissions Test (GMAT).• Applicants currently employed should includereferences from both professors and employers,if possible. Applicants should submit threerecommendations on the <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>recommendation forms.• ResumeRequirements for <strong>Graduate</strong>sRequirements for the MBA degree are in twocomponents, course requirements and a portfoliocompletion requirement. Course requirements for theMBA degree are composed of Foundation Courses, MBACore Courses, and Elective Courses. A total of 33 graduatecredits in the MBA Core and MBA Electives is required forcompletion of the degree. The portfolio requirement willnot be specific to any course; however, the requirementsfor completion will be introduced in a first-level MBAcore class and the portfolio submission is expected in thelast semester of study. Specific requirements for each ofthese components are given below.I. Course Requirements for the MBA DegreeA. Foundation CoursesMBA Foundation course requirements are designedto meet all of the “Undergraduate Knowledge andSkill Areas” required for the degree and a portion ofthe “Undergraduate and Master’s Level Knowledgeand Skill Areas” requirements. MBA Foundationcourses, waived for most candidates with a businessundergraduate degree, are not subject to residencyrequirements and are considered to be prerequisiteor corequisite to the MBA Core. MBA Foundationcoursework may be completed at <strong>Clarion</strong> or otherapproved institutions at either the undergraduateor the graduate level. <strong>Graduate</strong> courses takenat another institution to meet foundation courserequirements may be used in transfer to meet MBAFoundation requirements but not MBA Core orMBA Elective course requirements. At <strong>Clarion</strong>,courses that meet the foundation requirements areoffered at the undergraduate level.
