Upon acceptance into the program,students will be assigned to a departmental advisor. Thestudent and his or her advisor will plan a program of study.This plan will be filed and maintained in the student’sacademic file. Students must meet with their academicadvisor every semester to pre-register for courses.Grades. An average grade of “B” (3.0/4.0) isrequired.<strong>Graduate</strong> Courses. <strong>Graduate</strong> courses are numberedin the 500s. Some courses open to undergraduates (400numbers) may be taken for graduate credit by permissionof the student’s advisor. A maximum of six credits at the400-level may be taken for graduate credit and appliedtoward a graduate degree. Please note that 400-levelcourses taken for undergraduate credit cannot be repeatedfor graduate credit.Specific Requirements• The student must fulfill all general requirementsfor the degree and complete a minimum of 49semester hours of credit for the degree.• The graduate student majoring in speech languagepathology will complete a minimum of 37credits in communication sciences and disorderscourses, including CSD 500, 505, 510, 512, 520,525, 530, 535, 540, 550, 589, and 592. Studentsalso must complete 12 credits of CSD 422/522externship.• Students may elect to take one course outsidethe major providing their major and minor arearequirements will have been met. A completelisting of graduate courses in communicationsciences and disorders is carried in the coursedescription section that follows.Options. Thesis, research, and academic programs areavailable. The decision as to whether a given student shallfollow one program or the other rests with the department,as it considers the recommendations of the advisor andthe request of the student. The student will complete anapproved program under one of the following options:Thesis Option: Fifty-two semester hours, including sixcredits in CSD 590. After the completion of a satisfactorythesis, the candidate will be asked to make an oral defenseof this thesis before a faculty committee.
