6 OPERATIONAL EXAMPLES OF APRS6.1.6.2 Receiving QSY InformationThe <strong>TH</strong>-<strong>D72A</strong>/E receives QSY information not only from another <strong>TH</strong>-<strong>D72A</strong>/E, but also locationinformation from other software as well as QSY information and repeater frequency object informationembedded in status text. You can confirm the QSY information that is received as embedded data bychecking the voice frequency at the beginning of the status text on the Station List screen.Press the [OK] key to display the List Detail screen, press the [MENU] key, then select “Tune”, andthe transceiver will change quickly to the non-data band frequency. Also, on the Station List screen,“F” will appear on the right side of the screen if QSY information is embedded. This enablesconfirmation of the QSY information also on the Station List, and just pressing the [MENU] key andthen selecting “Tune” easily changes the frequency to the non-data band.Also, if, in addition to voice frequency, Wide/ Narrow, Tone/ CTCSS/ DCS, Shit (+/-), Offset frequencyare also set in the status text, selecting will not only change to the voice frequency, but switchbetween Wide/ Narrow and set Tone/ CTCSS/ DCS.Figure 6-7 QSY Station List Screen6.1.6.3 QSY Functions and EchoLinkEchoLink system operators can configure their nodes to generate APRS objects that contain theirQSY Frequency information. These beacons can either be transmitted locally on the APRS channel,or generated directly to the APRS-IS for dissemination back to RF via the local IGate station. It isimportant for nearby traveling mobiles to see these QSY Frequency objects on their maps and thefront panel of their <strong>TH</strong>-<strong>D72A</strong>/E or TM-D710A/E while traveling in new areas.6.1.7 Message FunctionThe Message function closely resembles other amateur radio modes since it consists of exchangingmessages with hams. You can send a message by entering a callsign of the message recipient.You’ll receive an acknowledgment (ACK) message back when the targeted station receives themessage. You can also enjoy group messaging by using a group name instead of a callsign. Agroup name can be configured via Menu 3S0. In addition, there is a bulletin function. Usingbulletins, you can report on upcoming events or other information to a large collection of users over abroad region.6.1.7.1 Automatic Reply FunctionThe Automatic Reply Message function replies to messages that you receive while you are drivingand you can pre-configure a message response such as “Pse QRX.
