"After returning home, I came to the quick yetprofound realization that the experience I shared in the midst of such a rich andwelcoming culture was one that impacted me in an unforgettable manner. Not only didthe Ghanaians accept us warmly into their community, but they also displayed for us thata simple lifestyle that places more emphasis on who is in one's life rather than what is inone's life is the best way to truly live happily."Easton appreciated witnessing the everyday life of the Ghanaian people. "Though many ofthe things I saw disillusioned me to the suffering and pain that people endure each day, this disillusionment increased my awareness of the desperate aid that countless men,

women and children in third world countries need. And though a part of me died inwitnessing several of the sights I saw, a new part of me, one of greater awareness andcompassion, was born anew."After experiencing a full immersion into Ghanaian culture,I found that for all I had learned about African way of lifeand customs, I had learned just as much about myself andmy life. I now know that the material pleasures inAmerican culture are so short-minded and insignificantwhen compared to the authentic and loving relationshipsthat I was blessed with while in Ghana, and though I amnow gone, they still resonate in me in what I believe to bea lasting and heart-warming way," Easton said.Click HERE to see pictures of the students' life changingexperiences.Campus Ministry NewsJAM kicks off its 14th year this summer during the weeks of June 24-27 and July1-3.
