He has graduatedwith merit the Sam Spigel’ School for Cinema and Television,in Jerusalem in 2007. In the course of his studies, he madetwo short films, The Hungry Heart 2005 and Shred of Hope2007. The films participated in festivals around the world;among them Clermont-Ferrand FF, Edinburgh FF, JerusalemFF, Karlovy Vary FF, and many more. He won numerousprizes, such as Best Film in the Pisticchi FF 2007 in Italy andBest Israeli Short Film in the Eilat FF. Tom Shoval is one ofthe founders of the “Baboon Group” - a group of young directors,assembled together to create short films, withoutfinancial governmental support, in order to achieve creativefreedom. The films were shown in international film festivalsand were screened commercially in selected Israeli cinematheaters. In this venue he made the short Van Gogh in Tel-Aviv 2002. That’s the Spirit 2008, a Video Art commissionedby the Herzliya Biannale, won Shoval raving reviews andwas shown publicly outdoors. During this time he self-produced five student finalfilms, two of which were accepted into several internationalfilm festivals – Getting Even 2006, directed by VeredYerucham and Shred of Hope 2007, directed by Tom Shoval.In 2009 he opened Greenproductions, and produced twoindependent short films: Passing Shadow written and directedby Shimon Shai, and To Kill a Bumblebee written anddirected by Sharon Maymon and Tal Granit, which won thefirst prize in Valladolid Intl Film Festival. In that same yearhe was the producer of a feature film by Dan Wolman, GaiOni.
