Agora/Market Manual - 51st Thessaloniki IFF-2010Crossroads ProjectsLutonGreeceProduced by: HORSEFLY PRODUCTIONSDirector: Michalis KonstantatosScriptwriters:Michalis Konstantatos, Stelios LikouresisProducer: Yorgos TsourgiannisCo-Producer: BOO ProductionsBudget: 690.000 euroSecured Financing: 10%Location: GreeceLooking for: Co-Producer, Sales AgentSYNOPSISJimmy, Mary and Makis are three very ordinary people stereotypical of their social status and have seeminglynothing in common. One would not expect that these characters could get together and form any kind of relationship.Under the boredom of a conventional life, and the devious pressure that this imposes on people of themodern western society – within which all is usual and expected - these three people find their own way toescape. Even though they don’t have any obvious common ground, they meet regularly and cause extreme actsof violence to random strangers. But can this explosion of violence, which they interpret as a normal process –part of their normal everyday routine - break their sense of exclusion and the monotonous flow of their life?DIRECTORS’ STATEMENTWhile following almost in real time the daily life of three different people, all the elements of the movie and theway it is filmed work as a microscope that infiltrates on the conventional life of the main characters.Through a repetitive everyday routine and ostensibly normal flow, the characters are overwhelmed internallyfrom the dead-end they face in their unsatisfied life and their inability to change it. Without being able toexperience a meaningful connection with others and themselves, they follow the steps and obligations thattheir social status, age and sex expect of them. The goal of the movie is not to portray the acts of violence in araw manner, but instead to give weight to the reasons and clues that possibly cause it, that emerge unsuspectedwithin our relationships and environments. The form of the film will contribute decisively for the best and mosteffective communication of its contents since it doesn’t want to make or stand against any didactic and moralcomments or suggest some kind of solution.HORSEFLY PRODUCTIONSHorsefly is the production label of Yorgos Tsourgiannis.
