Agora/Market Manual - 51st Thessaloniki IFF-2010Balkan Fund ProjectsSmells Like BloodGreeceProduced by: WRONG MENDirector: Filippos TsitosScriptwriter: Effi GavrilouProducer: Alexandra BoussiouCo-Producers:Neue Road Movies - Germany,Entre Chien et Loup - BelgiumBudget: 960.000 euroSYNOPSISAthens, Spring 1969, during the military junta. George Mavroudis (53), High Rank police officer, is a man of fewwords. His goal is to protect the new reforming system. His son Takis and a prostitute Rita are the only people inhis life. All of a sudden, everyday routine is disturbed by a series of murders. At first, Mavroudis tortures anti –regimes as suspects and even condemns innocent people. Under his Chief’s pressure to solve the ongoing crimes,Mavroudis realizes that his son is arrested for terrorism and that Rita does not want him anymore. He eventuallylets his son get imprisoned hoping it will teach him a lesson. But when Mavroudis captures the real serial killers, both German, and meets with the mastermind behind the crimes, he recognizes the absolutism of the systemhe defends and the dead-end his own life has reached. Has he managed to destroy his life to the point of no return?DIRECTORS’ STATEMENTIn Smells Like Blood we want to create a world that reflects reality in a way that transmits to the audience theessence of every moment and every character. In the case of Mavroudis, we will see a quiet, conformed man,but gradually we will discover what lies beneath, how far he’s gone and the absolute dead end he will bringhimself to. Smells Like Blood is a story that has the great advantage of taking place in, to my opinion, the mostintriguing – politically, historically and aesthetically- period of Modern Greek History. The style of the film evokes the French “films policiers” and along with a dry sense of irony, talks about theparadoxical search of order in an irrational reality and the deep existential stress once we realize we have madea series of mistakes in our life. How far does a man have to go to realize he is wrong?WRONG MENWrong Men was founded in October 2009 by Alexandra Boussiou. The company focuses in genre films (mainlycrime and thriller), in low budget art house, and creative documentaries. We are currently in production of ourfirst feature film by Filippos Tsitos and we have 3 projects in development. Artistic contribution in all stages ofdevelopment and production is our main goal and we aim to broaden our borders by co producing with other, mainly European, countries.PRODUCER’S CONTACT INFORMATIONWRONG MENT. +30 2106422540M. +30 6944350776info@wrongmen.gralexandra@wrongmen.grwww.wrongmen.gr28
