the 12months, introducing them to the sport the modifies game. QWPI deployed over 15casual development officers to delivery the Flippa Ball program across the state. The programwill continue to grow and be more of a recruitment initiative linking with come and try dayswith the support of Collins Food Group for a further three (3) years. As the sport continues to grow the next focus was on coach and official development, includingaccreditation. Through the direction of Australian Water Polo and the National DevelopmentManager 2010/11 saw QWPI run several national coach accreditation scheme (NCAS) andnational official accreditation scheme (NOAS) courses. Steadily the number of nationalaccredited coaches and officials is increasing with further focus on development seminars beingbrought in for the next 12months, and returning to grass roots for coaching and officialtraining to build Queensland to have the most qualified and up to date coaches and officials inthe country. Our high performance athletes throughout the year were once again supported through theQueensland Academy of Sport (QAS) Program’s. QWPI works closely with the QAS headcoaches Simon Daley (Men’s Program) and Aleks Osadchuk (Women’s Program) to ensureopportunities for training, competition and education are available for our high performanceathletes. The year has seen over fifteen senior Queensland athletes represent Australia atinternational events.Though the commitment of an emerging athlete program(EAP) and support of theQueensland‘s elite pool of Representative and National League Team coaches (Simon Dayley,Aleks Osadchuk, Jack Lusic, Fabio Pavanello, Scott Schwickle, Nicola Johnson, Martin O’Brien,Rob Edwards, Duncan Greenbank, Daniel Marsden and Tony Hardy) 25 junior QWPI membersrepresented Australia on International Tours and Junior World Championships. The QWPIWomen’s EAP program as an underpinning QAS program has reaped rewards for the juniorwomen within Queensland and is currently being established for the men.The annual QWPI awards recognizing our high performance athlete and local levelachievements were announced at the local national league derby between the KFC QueenslandBreakers and the Brisbane Barracudas. The awards saw ten (10) awards presented, includingBrisbane Barracudas taking out six awards, showing their dominance across the country inWater Polo.QWPI could not have achieved success without the support and contribution of our clubs, coaches, referees, administrators, course presenters and volunteers, I thank them for theireffortless support and continued promotion of the sport in the greater community. The coming 12months will see new energy at QWPI, with improved programs and enhanceddevelopment which I look forward to delivering.Jodie WatsonExecutive DirectorDirector of CoachingW a t e r P o l o Q u e e n s l a n d 2 0 1 0 / 1 1 A n n u a l R e p o r t P a g e 9

Participation AnalysisNational registrations numbers in the past 12months have seen an overall decrease of 21%. Queensland isno different, with a eight percent (8%) decrease, mainly seen in regional areas.Consistently over the past eight (8) years junior females (under 18) registrations are the premier membershiptype. 2010/11 remain the same as previous with 52% of all registrations within Queensland being juniorfemales. Overall juniors dominate the Queensland registration with a 70% drop off rate from juniors toseniors, a figure which has been consistent over the past decade in Queensland. Comparison across thecountry shows Queensland’s dominance of junior numbers is similar to southern states. Junior registrationsin Tasmania and South Australia are at 79%, 50% in Victoria, whereas New South Wales at 37% andWestern Australia at 25% show a strong dominance in opportunities offered to seniors players. QWPI hasidentified retention as an area of importance for the sustainability and growth of the sport long term.W a t e r P o l o Q u e e n s l a n d 2 0 1 0 / 1 1 A n n u a l R e p o r t P a g e 1 0

Overall metropolitan registrations have remained steady, however a regional decrease for the second yearrunning has been experienced. Previous new and established regional areas have faced environmentalimpacts in the past 12 months which has directly impacted on volunteers, governance, opportunity and poolaccess for the sport.W a t e r P o l o Q u e e n s l a n d 2 0 1 0 / 1 1 A n n u a l R e p o r t P a g e 1 2
