Precision& Prideof PevelyMissouriUltima®ProductsInnovation&INGENUITYThese pictures show the concept of the fixtures used in our state of the art head machine. This wasdesigned in house using 3D modeling software. Many dimensions had to be taken from the machinesand the parts themselves to make sure it was all possible. Using this design we maximize spindle timeand have access to all of the parts features. This machine can cut while parts are loaded onto a secondarypallet. When the machine is finished with the first pallet parts it starts on the second pallet parts. Theparts on the first pallet are then unloaded and loaded with more to-be-cut parts and this process repeats. This allows the spindle to be run non-stop. Since the heads are mounted individually on 5-axis fixturesthey do not need to be placed in multiple fixed position fixtures. The machine has access to everyfeature that it needs to cut using the least amount of setup time. This one machine has eight 5-axisfixtures (four per pallet). 5 Axis Horizontal Milling Machine:Reuben stands at the controller’s position wherehe makes sure the thousands of lines of codetranslate to efficient and accurate tool paths. Each machining step and every motion themachine makes is programmed so the machineknows what and where to cut. Once this tediousprogramming process is complete the machinecan follow the code and repeat the process timeafter time without worries.Product Inspection:We inspect the finished productto insure quality control.Ultima® Machine ShopTeam:Jesse MisseyReuben MirabalBrian D. Cylinder Machine:Engineer Brian Brace loads acylinder into the fixture so thatthe cylinder can be held rigidlywhile it is machined. In the firstoperation of the cylinder machiningprocess an expanding mandrelis used to hold the raw castings inplace. This allows machine toolaccess to the cylinder deck andperiphery features. These fixtureswere also designed and machinedin house.Probe:This shows the touch probe locating the precisecenter of the rough cylinder castings. We use CNCmachines equipped with probing packages to giveus feedback on the locations of machined and unmachinedfeatures. When dealing with castingsthere can be slight shifts and offsets in parts andprobing the features helps us identify and accountfor any casting abnormalities. As a result we canmake perfect parts every time with less waste.CuttingThis is an action shot of a cylinder being cut usinga face mill. There is lots of coolant being sprayedon the part because high speed cutting causeslots of heat. In order to cut efficiently there needsto be ample cutting coolant. Brian Brace standsbehind the closed door to keep him safe from flyingchips as well as clean and dry from the gallonsof machining coolant.
