RFID SystemsIDENT I System P Read Heads and BasesIDENT I System PRead Head andBases• Single read head solution 1 head,1 base, 1 network connection• 4” of read range• Choose PROFIBUS, RS-232, RS-485or INTERBUS• DIP switch addressable• Reads and writes any lowfrequency IPC tagIDENT I System P Read HeadThe choices are simple here. One read head is usedwith a number of base options including RS-232, RS-485, PROFIBUS, and INTERBUS. The read head willcommunicate to all low-frequency IPC… type tags. Thereare three LEDs that help to diagnose and troubleshoot thesystem. The first is power, the second is the read/writesuccess and the last one is for bus error. If the INTERBUSor PROFIBUS connections are not made the Bus Err LEDwill be solid RED.IDENT I System P BasesThe IDENT I System P Bases contain all electricalconnections for the read head as well as any DIP switchsetting. There are two versions of the base. There is theshort version for RS-232/RS-485 and the long version forPROFIBUS and INTERBUS. There are also stainless steelversions that are perfect for the food industry.Mounting hardwareIf the read heads are installed in a rigid bracket, it isimpossible to make adjustments. P+F offers RAMmounting hardware that makes it easy to adjust thereaders. The distance between the tag and head may needto change depending on the mounting of the tag and thespeed at which the tag passes the head.RS-232/RS-485 point-to-pointPoint-to-point models are designed to connect a singlehead to a single serial port. That port can be RS-232 orRS-485. The P+F protocol is easy to use. You send acommand and you get a response when the command isexecuted. Many commands are available to the user. Also, the read head can run automatically on power up and senddata as the tags arrive in front of the read head.RS-485 multidropThe multidrop bases are ideal for connecting many headsto a single serial port. The bases are addressable 1-30, andup to 30 read heads can be connected to a single cable.RS-485 can be run up to 2000 feet with no communicationloss. This protocol is ideal for PC applications and alsoconnects to our DeviceNet bus coupler. For DeviceNet,however, only a single head at address 1 is supported oneach port.PROFIBUSTo connect multiple heads to a single cable this is probablythe simplest and fastest hardware to use. You can hardwirethe PROFIBUS cable or use the single quick disconnectoption. If using a quick disconnect, a single head can beremoved without taking down the entire network. Over 100heads can be attached to a single network.INTERBUSThis is one of the few INTERBUS options that P+F offers. This base was recently redesigned to incorporate the baudrate selection switch so that 500 kbit/s and2 Mbit/s are now both supported. The quick disconnectoption now makes installation even easier. The realadvantage of INTERBUS is its almost limitless cable length. There can be up to 512 participants on the bus and theINTERBUS cable can be up to 12.8 kilometers with up to400 meters between any two devices.60Pepperl+Fuchs®Inc. • 1600 Enterprise Parkway • Twinsburg, Ohio 44087-2245 • www.am.pepperl-fuchs.comTelephone (330) 486-0001 • FAX (330) 405-4710 • E-Mail: sales@us.pepperl-fuchs.com
