The mayor of thetown had been asked to make a presentation and a shortspeech, but was late arriving. So the priest took it uponhimself to fill the time, and stood up to the microphone:"I remember the first confession I heard here twenty-fiveyears ago and it worried me as to what sort of place I'd cometo... That first confession remains the worst I've ever heard. The chap confessed that he'd stolen a TV set from aneighbour and lied to the police when questioned, successfullyblaming it on a local scallywag. He said that he'd stolen moneyfrom his parents and from his employer; that he'd had an affairwith his best friends' wife; that he'd taken hard drugs, and hadslept with a nun of this church and given her VD. You canimagine what I thought... However I'm pleased to say that asthe days passed I soon realised that this sad fellow was afrightful exception and that this town was indeed a wonderfulplace full of kind and decent people..."At this point the Mayor arrived and apologized for being late, and keen to take the stage, he immediately stepped up to themicrophone and pulled his speech from his pocket:"I'll always remember when Father O' Shaunessey first cameto our town," said the Mayor, "In fact, I'm pretty certain that Iwas the first person that he heard in confession.."“Life is full of beauty. Y said, "You should share responsibilities with due love andrespect to each other. Then absolutely there will be no problems."X asked, "Can you explain?"Y said, "In my house, I take decisions on bigger issues where as mywife decides on smaller issues. We do not interfere in each othersdecisions."Still not convinced, X asked Y "Give me some examples"Y said, "Smaller issues like which car we should buy, how muchamount to save, when to visit home town, which Sofa, airconditioner, refrigerator to buy, monthly expenses, whether to keepa maid or not etc are decided by my wife. I just agree to it"X asked, "Then what is your role?"Y said, "My decisions are only for very big issues. Like whetherAmerica should attack Iraq, whether Britain should lift sanction overZimbabwe, whether to widen African economy, whether TigerWoods should be pardoned by his wife etc. Do you know one thing,my wife NEVER objects to any of these".GOD IS NO WHEREWe have a wonderful world that is full of beauty, light andpromise. Why waste time in this world looking for the bad, disappointing or annoying when we can look around us, andsee the wondrous things before us!This can be read as "GOD IS NO WHERE" or as "GOD ISNOW HERE" everything depends on how you see it. Allsuccessful people have one thing in common: Positive thinkingand passion for what they are doing!Norman Vincent Peale, the famous author of "The Power ofPositive Thinking" once told this story.A man once telephoned Norman Vincent Peale. He wasdespondent and told the reverend that he had nothing left tolive for. Norman Vincent Peale invited the man over to hisoffice. "Everything is gone, hopeless," the man told him. "I'mliving in deepest darkness. In fact, I've lost heart for livingaltogether." Norman Vincent Peale smiled sympathetically."Let's take a look at your situation," he said calmly. On a sheetof paper he drew a vertical line down the middle. Hesuggested that they list on the left side the things the man hadlost, and on the right, the things he had left. "You won't needthat column on the right side," said the man sadly. "I havenothing left, period." Norman Vincent Peale asked, "When didyour wife leave you?""What do you mean? She hasn't left me. My wife loves me!""That's great!" said Norman Vincent Peale enthusiastically."Then that will be number one in the right-hand column -Wife hasn't left. Now, why your children left you?" "That'ssilly. My children are always with me !" "Good! That's numbertwo in the right-hand column - Children not in jail," saidNorman Vincent Peale, jotting it down. After a few more questions in the same vein, the man finallygot the point and smiled in spite of himself. "Funny, how thingschange when you think of them that way," he said.Motivational Quote: "Be sure that you appreciate everythingyou've got; and be thankful for the little things in life that meana lot."Inspirational Quote: "It is not what you have but it is how youthink has a profound effect on your life."January – March 2010 14

Then suddenly, the first one stood up and said,"I forgot my mat." He steeped miraculously onto the water infront of him and walked across the lake to their hut on theother side. When he returned, the second monk stood up and said, "Iforgot to put my the other underwear to dry." He too walkedcalmly across the water and returned the same way. The thirdmonk watched the first two carefully in what he decided mustbe the test of his own abilities. "Is your learning so superior tomine? I too can match any feat you two can perform," hedeclared loudly and rushed to the water's edge to walk acrossit. He promptly fell into the deep water.Undeterred, the yogi climbed out of the water and tried again, only to sink into the water. Yet again he climbed out and yetagain he tried, each time sinking into the water. This went onfor some time as the other two monks watched. After a while, the second monk turned to the first and said,"Do you think we should tell him where the stones are?"Let us take a pledge for a solid Team Work to stay afloat.Patron:Editor:Associates:Jayant MisraR R MohantyS S Das, G K PattanayakM R Kar, C R BarmaJanuary – March 2010 16
