Background information■ Good practicesA good practice is defined as anapproach or method that showssuperior results relative to otherapproaches or methods in termsof achieving a certain objective.Logically, good practices are onlyvalid for a certain time period andregion. There is no judgment onwhether the objective itself ispraiseworthy. To qualify as a good practice:• it should be a real practice, not just an idea of what couldbe done;• the approach or method shouldstand out by comparison withothers, allowing a certainobjective to be achieved in amore efficient way;• there must be some evidenceof the superiority of its results.In-depth interviews were conducted with atleast two leading experts in the field of discriminationin each country. A semi-structuredinterview framework was developed inorder to encourage those experts to discusstheir views and express their opinions regardingdiscrimination in their cultures – specificallyits presence in youth sport in their countries.In-depth interviews were also conducted withtwo project officers per country, peoplewith direct experience of implementing antidiscriminationprojects at grassroots level. In countries where SUSU funded projectswere supported, we were interested in interviewingproject officers and participantswho had seen those anti-discrimination programmesfirst-hand in order to learn fromtheir local experience. In total, 47 people were interviewed (see listof interviewed people in the appendix). Althoughthey were planned to last approximately45 minutes, most of the interviewstook more than one hour.
