ARLA PATCH, BFA Sculpture, has
72 been invited by former classmate
Dan Castelaz (Tyler Rome, ‘71) to teach at
his school, the Taipei American School in
Taiwan during January 2007. She will travel
on to Bangkok, Thailand where she will
show the DVD of her book A Body Story
to a visual media class at a Thai University.
She will also give a presentation to her alma
mater, the International School of Bangkok.
In addition, she is currently teaching at
Copper Canyon Academy for troubled girls
in Arizona where she uses mask-making
and photography as tools for healing.
HELEN WEISZ, MFA Ceramics, had a tile
piece selected for exhibition in the 7th
International Biennial of Ceramics at the
Museo de Ceramica de Mainises in Valencia,
Spain, from November 18, 2005 to January
14, 2006. The show featured 58 works from
18 different countries. Helen was one of five
artists exhibiting from the United States.
APRIL FUSTER, MFA Printmaking,
73 recently completed a two-year
term as president of the Mid-America Print
Council. The Art Academy of Cincinnati,
where she teaches printmaking and
drawing, has moved to a renovated
building downtown with improved and
enlarged printmaking facilities.
LOIS WINSTON, BFA Graphic Design/
Illustration, has sold a second novel to
Dorchester Publishing, a leading New
York publisher of genre fiction. Love,
Lies & a Double Shot of Deception is a
romantic suspense story that takes place
in Philadelphia and features a heroine who
attended art school. It will be published in
June 2007. More information about the

VERONICA BENNING, MFA Painting,
74 exhibited her paintings in a group
show, “Tertiary, Three Colorists” at the
Galeyrie Fine Art in Falmouth, Maine, from
July 10 through August 12, 2006.
SYDNEY CARPENTER, BFA and MFA ’76,
participated in the University of the Arts
12th Annual Summer Lecture Series on July
5, 2006. Carpenter is currently a studio
art professor at Swarthmore College.
AUDREY FOX, BFA Painting, is an
76 artist and teacher in Lower Merion,
PA. Her new concept in painting applies
her artistic images directly to aluminum.
The new process is on display in her new
mural entitled “Waltz of the Tree People
in the Jungle Garden” for the Aquatic
and Fitness Center in Bala Cynwyd. The
mural is a unique fantasy landscape where
trees, leaves, and branches transform into
people and hidden images are worked
into the shadows. The company that
helped to produce this artwork was able
to print Fox’s image on aluminum using
a unique, weather-resistant process.
JOSEPH ESSIG, MFA Painting,
77 had his work exhibited in the
eDavid Gallery show, “Six Contemporary
Printmakers.” The group show was
open June 24 through July 30, 2006.
LISA LEARNER, BFA Painting, is teaching
painting and drawing classes at the Main
Line Art Center. Her paintings continue to
be exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of
Art gallery and in the David David Gallery
at 260 South 18th Street in Philadelphia.
POLLY APFELBAUM, BFA
78 Printmaking, will have a solo
exhibition at Frith Street Gallery, London in
early 2007. Frith Street Gallery represents
a group of twenty-two international artists
working in a variety of media, including
Apfelbaum’s floorboard installations.
LAURA DROGOUL, BFA Sculpture, a
Baltimore sculptor and performance artist
who created an eight-foot-tall Japanese
mask with glowing blue eyes and papiermache
skin, was named the first winner of
the $25,000 Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize.
JON WEIMAN, BFA Graphic Design, cofounded
Weimanewman, LLC, in 2006. The
company is a design firm specializing in Web
design, illustration, Flash Animation and
graphic design. Their clients include interior
design firms, restaurants, a stone and marble
supplier, among others. The Web address is

JOHN WARREN, BFA Printmaking,
80 has owned and operated his
own picture framing business for 10
years. He was in a three person show
at the JMS gallery in Philadelphia from
January through February, 2006. He
was also in a group show at the Berman
Museum of Art at Ursinus College from
September through November, 2004.
