The examination and <strong>the</strong> assignment count 50% each with respectto <strong>the</strong> calculation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> final module marks.A sub-minimum <strong>of</strong> 40% must be obtained in <strong>the</strong> examination for <strong>the</strong>candidate to pass <strong>the</strong> module.Dissertations are subjected to internal and/or external evaluation.EXIT LEVEL OUTCOME (Subject to approval)After <strong>the</strong> successful completion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first year (8 modules) it is possiblefor a student to qualify for a postgraduate diploma in Governance andpolitical transformation. This is only applicable to students not interestedin completing <strong>the</strong> second year <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Masters qualification.In cases where students want to complete <strong>the</strong> Masters course afterobtaining a post graduate diploma in a few years time, <strong>the</strong> following isapplicable: Re-admission only after assessment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academic performance<strong>of</strong> a candidate. Preference will be given to students already in <strong>the</strong> program if <strong>the</strong>reare too many students. Ano<strong>the</strong>r two modules (value 32 credits) must be completed.Second Year A course in Methodology, MGT721, (16 credits) has to becompleted. Only students who successfully completed six courses(including <strong>the</strong> four compulsory courses) in <strong>the</strong> first year, will be admittedto <strong>the</strong> second year <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> said course. Examination will take placeduring June/July or November/January. A Research Proposal, MGT722 (16 credits) must be completed andpresented for evaluation. MGT723 (Scientific skills) and MGT724 (Governance skills) <strong>of</strong> 16credits each must be successfully completed. Assignments areoptional for <strong>the</strong>se two courses. Examinations will take place ei<strong>the</strong>rJune/July or November/January <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> specific year. A Dissertation, MGT791 (64 credits) as an outcome <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> researchproposal (MGT722) must be successfully completed.CREDITS COMPILATIONFirst Year8 x 16 = 128 credits96<strong>Postgraduate</strong> Calendar 2004 – Faculty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Humanities
